If you voted Tory, how old are you?

Arguing with DH.

I think most Tory voters are, ahem, older.

He thinks they have appealed to younger voters this time.

If you don't want to reveal your actual age, let's say below 35 is "young" and above 35 is...."above".

Thx

You are supposed to get more right wing as you age, if you are voting Tory aged 21 who on earth will you be voting for in your 60s?

CaptainUnderpants · 08/05/2010 17:34

44 & 49

Madsometimes · 08/05/2010 17:39

Dh is 42, but he is a first time Tory voter.

Ewe · 08/05/2010 17:50

I am young and know of quite a lot of people who vote Tory who are my age.

sethstarkaddersmum · 08/05/2010 18:07

I used to teach in a university and had noticed that my more recent students were way more right-wing than the ones say 5 years ago. They were also more unashamedly elitist in their attitudes and less relativist intellectually. (However this may have been simply a change to the student demographic IYSWIM - as tuition fees kicked in poorer students have been finding it harder to go to university so those there were relatively posher.)

IagreewithNick · 08/05/2010 18:12

I don't know anyone younger than me, I am in my mid thirties, who openly admits to voting Tory and I am in a Tory heartland.

peanutbear · 08/05/2010 18:12

34 and m not posh Im a single mom

NomDePlume · 08/05/2010 18:18

I didn;t vote for them. DH did. He is 41.

Our seat went from red to blue . Our new (Tory) MP is 32 years old.

KRH · 08/05/2010 18:18

29 and hubby is 34. (oh and we live in Lib Dem/SNP heartland in Scotland too!)

beccas · 08/05/2010 18:22

34
Trouble is where I live, its so blue, it wouldn't make any difference. I wanted to vote Lib Dem where I live because the fella was local and active. We had the dodgy Derek Conway before so the new Blue chap doesn't even live here, but he got a very safe seat.
But I didn't want to vote for Nick Clegg as leader of the country.
Our politics system is all wrong

AvaGoOnTheSwingometer · 08/05/2010 18:24

I'm 36 and my friends who voted Tory are 44, 36, 24 and 30 years odd.

VengefulKitty · 08/05/2010 18:26

I didn't but I know my 18yo cousin did as well his parents.

According to FB, many of his friends also did the same.

From all the people I know and can see it was a LD/Con split across all ages.

AvaGoOnTheSwingometer · 08/05/2010 18:27

*old. ALthough they are all pretty odd too

BertieBotts · 08/05/2010 18:32

A few of my friends my age (21/22) voted for them, and have been quite vocal on FB saying "Why does everyone hate the tories so much, they have good policies!" and
"Everyone just hates them because they are 'posh' or because of what happened years ago" and
"Someone needs to sort out what labour have done to this country"

Most of my friends my age (including me) voted LD though.

BertieBotts · 08/05/2010 18:34

Oh and one friend my age who voted conservative because everyone in his family always has, but I guess that is different.

SirBoobAlot · 08/05/2010 19:28

A lot of my friends (18/19) did. Some of them have been Tory supporters for a while (there was quite an emphasis on politics at my secondary school, with a varied affect - some are Tory, some are Green!) and some decided upon a lot of research that was where their best interests lay.

Alouiseg · 11/05/2010 15:47

I'm 40.

Time for a blue rinse and a tweed skirt

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/05/2010 16:00

I'm 33 and DH is 40. Others members of the family who voted Tory are aged as follows.

65
41
38
37
36
33
27
26

Pretty wide spread of ages - and we are historically a Labour voting family.

scaryteacher · 11/05/2010 16:52

Dh is 49, dm is 69 and I am 44. I have voted Tory since I was 18.

KEAWYED · 11/05/2010 16:54

31 i have always voted for them

heather1980 · 11/05/2010 17:07

30 and in a marginal seat in the NW that swings lib/con every few years
dh -31- voted lib dem
i was 17 when labour won in 97 so have spent my adult life under labour.

bonnieblue · 11/05/2010 17:18
