HELP MY LOCAL TORY CANDIDATE IS ANTI-GAY, ANTI-ABORTION AND IN FAVOUR OF TEACHING CREATIONISM IN SCHOOLS

I've read over the weekend about my local Tory candidate and how she prayed for the demons to leave a gay "victim". How can people like this seriously be put forward by the party?

No idea but don't vote for her.

What was the candidates name? Have you got a link for her comments.

Is it this one?

sweetjane1 · 04/05/2010 11:19

Phillipa Stroud:

Oh, and isn't she behind all the Tories 'social policies'?
Is anyone surprised? DC is the window dressing of a party much more reactionary.

ahundredtimes · 04/05/2010 11:21

Is that Phillipa Stroud?

Don't vote for her. I have no idea how she's got to be a candidate tbh.

Except that on the deepest level I suspect the conservatives assume the world to be: married, christian and that people will 'do the right thing' - which means, behave and be, just like them. . .

sweetjane1 · 04/05/2010 11:52

I've just rung the local party, they say she has issued a full rebuttal of the article but I can't find this anywhere on line. THey also suggested I ring Giles Bancroft at Conservative HQ but he was quite put out that a mere voter was ringing him because he only deals with the Press!!!

There is a thread here in politics about her that I started yesterday, it has her statement on.

There is NO way I could consider voting for her, evangelical extreme christianity is not something that I would want in a member of parliament.

Why wouldn't you vote Lib Dem? Paul Burstow is a good local MP.

AvengingGerbil · 04/05/2010 13:51

This is why the total focus of the media on the party leaders is a disaster for local democracy: there has been no attention given to any other candidates for election (the ones we actually get to vote for) and their views whether hateful or not. So two days before the election a voter can be surprised to find their candidate is not in fact a David/Gordon/Nick clone, but a person with opinions of their own.

rocknstroll · 04/05/2010 13:55

please post this in the ridiculous thread about how everyone is desperate for the tories to win the next election! please!

Ewe · 04/05/2010 13:57

Here is the original thread on it OP.

They won't care rocknstroll (had the conversation in RL over last couple of days) they will just believe her statement or say it was years ago so it doesn't matter.
