Anyone on here displaying a poster/placard for their chosen political party? If so, why?

Have just got back from the gym and am horrified that our next door neighbour has erected a huge Vote Conservative Placard in their front garden. From a distance it looks like a For Sale sign (if only)

Anyone else find it a bit strange that someone would do this? Wonder how long it will be before its vandalised!

There are a couple of posters in windows around here. One has has posters about everything - easter, wind turbine things, even a 20 plenty sign . I don't know why they bother - its a cul-de-sac so they aren't likely to convert hordes of people. There are loads and loads of For Sale type signs closer into town. But I think that may be a marginal seat, so maybe hope to temp the floating voters.

Ha ha... well there's 1 Plaid Cymru nearby, which I also mistook for a "For Sale" sign when I first walked around the corner, and much further along, a "Vote Labour" sign which is two or three times the size, nearly opposit some shops.

I don't know how long it will be until the latter 'disappears' but if I feel like a good walk at 3am one day soon, then I will be sure of its fate !

Lots of posters around here. Am struggling to stop myself from defacing a few of them in the night...

Compost · 26/04/2010 15:28

nope

Compost · 26/04/2010 15:29

meant to add, it is nobody elses business who i intend to vote for, and politics is very personal.

LouMacca · 26/04/2010 16:53

Thats exactly how I feel Compo.

I felt slightly driving past a friend's house at the weekend which had a huge two-way Conservative placard in the front garden. Sometimes you don't want to know that people you love and respect are wrong so different to you when it comes to politics!

There are lots of UKIP signs in my village including my next door neighbour

gorionine · 26/04/2010 17:05

The first time I saw one I was very very surprised, where I come from nobody tells who they vote for. I got used to it now because every other house has a sign arround here. Half for conservatives, half for LIB Dem. I have yet to see a labour one. I saw a sign that was red and yellow but have no idea which party it is for.

I'm tempted to put one up, just in the hope that it might persuade people that voting for them isn't a wasted vote (bit of solidarity and all that) However, DH is still sticking with our usual lot, so I'll refrain.

Why get offended by other people having political choices?

I am very happy about the fact we live in a democracy, with freedom of speech and association.

I am proud to have a Conservative poster in my window.

I am equally proud of the large Labour poster that has appeared in the local Chinese takeaway (though somewhat bemused, given Labour's hatred of small business and private enterprise)...

bobthebuddha · 28/04/2010 12:47

No need to be at people of different political persuasions having posters up - that's democracy. They're still human! I'm not voting for them this time round but the fact that one near neighbour has plastered his windows in Labour posters & his front garden with boards got me talking to him for the first time. He was outside and I said 'So it's the Lib-Dems for you is it?'. Quick as a flash he came back with 'Nah, haven't decided yet'. I liked that

geekgirl · 28/04/2010 12:51

We have a LibDem poster in our garden. The LibDem PPC here is a good friend of mine, and I've got it up to support her and get her name out there, and I suppose to show that people here are supporting the LibDems (we're in a Tory stronghold).

I have UKIP posters to help a party that does do not have the wealth to promote itself !
