Transfer of tax allowances

Is that basically (for eg.) taking Dhs tax free part (about 4-6k?) and because I don't work, giving him mine too - so he can earn 4-12k (no idea of exact figure) tax free?

If so, why isn't it in use? Just read on the BBC that it happens in alot of other "advanced" Countries. Sorry if this has already been done

Sorry, just read this 'married tax break' is achieved by basically this, but only £750 a year (which amount to the £150).
