Alistair Darling SHOCKER!! He concedes that spending cuts will be "tougher and deeper" than Thatcher's.

From Labours mate the BBC

After reading the press on the Budget, a last ditch attempt at credibility...
What a joke.

In other news...

Mr Brown why did you sell off half nations Gold reserves at ROCK bottom prices between 1999-2002, costing more to the nations finances than lost on Black Wednesday???
A link that works

The Daily Telegraph have given Brown's Government a deadline via the courts before the election. If the government do not present the information to the court they will be in breach of a court order.

The shocking thing is that Darling's admitted it. Fair play to him, I bet the Labour spin-doctors are furious. "All hell" will be let loose again at No. 11!

Hopefully it'll make those think twice who parrot the line "I'm voting Labour because I remember what it was like under Thatcher".

Tashtodd · 25/03/2010 21:57

What's he got to lose. He will no longer be Chancellor after May 6th anyway, even if Labour get back in . Ed Balls would be installed fothwith and what a grotesque prospect that would be.

To be honest it was the first tim ein all this mess that I had some respect for him.

I think if he'd fessed up earlier and said it was going to be tough, everyone would happier than all this pretending that everythings going to okay as long as we jus keep spending.

SixtyFootDoll · 26/03/2010 14:35

I am realy quite scared of what lies ahead, I truly believe we have seen nothing yet.

This govt has sold us all down the river.
ANd I dont think a new govt will much difference.

It is truly shocking what a complete fuck up they have made.

I can't wait to see the back of the incompetent twits. All those panicking about the Tories not caring and taking away stuff are deluded. Whoever gets in after the election will have some serious budgeting to do.

I actually think Brown should be put on trial for selling the Gold. My dh posted a link on his wiki page and pointed out the Gold fiasco years ago, it was swiftly removed.

He was such an appalling Chancellor and now such an appalling PM. He obviously thinks that the electorate are completely stupid and that he knows all the answers.

For all those moaning about DC and GO being ex Etonions, just remember that GB and AD are both Scottish and have given Scotland sooooo much more money for health and education. They have penalised the English, taxed the south east to death and have sent all the money up North.

Absolute Cretins, and actually that is an insult to cretins!

PandaSam · 26/03/2010 15:53

The reason he said it is because there actually weren't cuts under Thatcher.

Spending on main services grew rapidly under her control.

Labour say that need to cut spending by £39 billion but Maggie didn't need to because she ran things more prudently and did not borrow so much.

Plus - not all cuts are bad...it doesn't necessarily mean the sacking of teachers, nurses, doctors, police etc...if someone with any sense was running the country then efficiency savings could be made elsewhere.

If you were in debt you wouldn't start by kicking out your children; you'd start by cutting back on luxuries and switching lights off/turning the heating down etc!

Spot on! They seem have taken delight in wrecking the country.

Spot on too..From The Spectator: What did Darling mean by his "deeper and tougher" cuts claim?
"real-terms total public spending only fell in two years of the Thatcher premiership. In all the other years it rose. Indeed, spending increased by an average of 1.1 percent a year across the Thatcher premiership"
Clever choice of words from Darling, Orwellian doublespeak
