Does anyone more well versed in politics than me want to share what they think is a party’s best suggested policy, worst suggested policy, biggest distortion of fact, and a policy you wish they’d implement from another party.

This is a great suggestion for a thread! To stick with the positive:

I think the Green's policy for a kind of triple lock for renters to eliminate sudden, unpredictable rent spikes is good and interesting. I think Labour's policy of lifting the ban on the public water ownership, so that water companies can be brought back into public control is excellent (and long overdue). I think the Conservatives are right to propose cutting N.I contrbutions for employing young people, to get more young people back into work. I think the Lib Dems have strong policy ideas on youth mental health - especially ending the abrupt transition where young people are suddenly cut off from youth mental health services the moment they turn 18.

I think these are all interesting and positive policies actually. I’m a bit hesitant about the balance between capping rent rises and being realistic about landlord costs. For example, one of my friends paid rent far below market value. There is a bit of a link to the landlord through her DH, through work or hobby I’m not sure. At some point, their landlord intends to move back. Their rent made a bit of a jump, due to interest rate leaps, but was still well below market value, so they stayed. It’s fixed for the same period as the mortgage is fixed for. It’s not a popular view on MN, but I think landlords are given a bad rep! There are some shocking landlords and shocking tenants, and there are some great landlords and great tenants. I know there is a push to get rid of small landlords, but with the exception of one when I was a student, maintenance issues were always addressed quickly by private landlords and a nightmare through management companies.
