Had Trump done any research he would know that Argentina would be unable to launch an attack on the Falklands at the moment. Also he would know that our army, navy and airforce are in better shape now that it was back then

Firstly financially Argentina doesn't have the financial clout. Any attempt would likely bankrupt them on day one of any attempted invasion. Then there's the problem of a garrison of well trained military personnel....much larger with state of the art radar. Then there's a squadron of euro fighters. Not to mention we could easily deploy nuclear submarines and a strike fleet within hours of any threat. Not only could we stop an invasion reaching the islands....we could easily extend our mission to destroy every military aircraft on mainland Argentina within 6 hours using solely missile technology launched from ships and subs a thousand miles away. Even on the islands themselves is state of the air anti aircraft and naval defence systems.

The only thing Argentina can do is sanction British oil exploration companies, damaging but there are work arounds.

So I'm afraid Trumps comments on immigration, energy and other fluff will not hamper our resolve on these islands

As a non-Falklander brit, I personally do not have any resolve on the Falklands. It's really up to the Islanders.

I do happen to agree with the UK government position. That they were British before Argentina even existed. And that the people there voted to stay part of Britain.

So yeah, Trump should piss off re the Falklands. It's up to the Falklanders to decide. Same as Greenland and the Greenlanders.

Firstly I agree that the Islanders wishes should be paramount...I'd also agree that what UK Mil has in place on the Islands should be adequate to counter any credible Argentinian threat of a mass invasion of the whole islands along the lines of 82.

However looking at recent events I wouldn't be too optimistic about what extra assets (e.g. ships and subs) could be deployed quickly down south to assist...

...and if the Argentians managed to get ashore in sizeable numbers and, say, establish a foothold on West Falkland would the current politicians in Westminster actually sanction the use of military force to eject the invaders?

BTW Mrs Thatcher wasn't overly keen on the idea of offensive ops on the Argentinian mainland, I can't see any current UK administration being keen on that at all.

Oh, and yes Trump hasn't got a clue and should stay out of it...

Read your post @notimagain and wondered what powers your MIL possessed. Envisioned a stiff upper lipped nicely groomed 50yr old with a kick ass personality.
Trump hopefully looses all political power soon. The daily shit he spews is beyond annoying.
