All the 'Western' nations abandoned Afghanistan and thousands of Afghans who helped us in the war, most of whom will have been killed and their families murdered, alongside millions of ordinary citizens.

We abandoned the war because Afghanistan is basically unwinnable due to its millennia-old tribal structures, networks and hierarchies. There are still incredibly brave Afghan rebel factions, whom we're now unable to help. Some of those rebels, when they've been betrayed, make it out of the country at huge personal cost.

@MsAmerica, did you know that women's and girls' voices have now been criminalised? They mustn't speak in public, even to another woman. They aren't allowed to sing under any circumstances. A man can beat a woman of his household if he thinks she's speaking too loudly.

@HollyhocksandPeons try watching and reading some of the excellent materials about what's happened there. You can't see anything of what's happening now because all media are banned. I've just finished the BBC's Kabul series, which follows a small group of people trying to leave safely during the fall. For books try war reporter Christina Lamb, who not only lived through it and understands the politics, but truly loved Afghanistan as it was.

@GarlicSomething, I did know that they are literally suppressing women's voices, although I didn't know that it's actually a crime (if by that you mean a woman can be arrested for it).

Let's face it - I'm assuming a man there can beat a woman for any reason, or for no reason at all.

Lets not forget the BBC soft pieces on the “poor men” who “had” to sell their infant daughters into marriage. Never their sons of course. The piece did not interview women outside Afghanistan who experienced this, nor their mothers - just a piece about the poor men with no really consideration of the impact on the girls who can be sold into “marriage” from birth. Paedophile paradise.

And of course the British cricket boards happy to send official teams to play cricket with the murderers of women and girls.

Its all very well for the West to wring hands about it having abandoned those women and children but I really don’t see why we have to play games with them.

Afghanistan only didn’t compete in the World Cup because they didn’t qualify! Had they qualified they would have been in. The world boycotted South Africa over its apartheid regime, but says nothing to Afghanistan even though its women are treated 1000 times worse than SA treated their black population. Where’s the outrage? I read lots of posts asking why feminists aren’t standing up for Afghan women. I say why isn’t the world standing up for Afghan women? I think every Afghan woman should be taken out of Afghanistan. The Taliban do not deserve to have women.
