Thoughts on Calvin Robinson and his followers?

I’ve got to come on here after what is honestly the most flabbergasting post I have seen this week.

For anyone who doesn’t know, my understanding is that Calvin Robinson is a far-right commentator and priest (though I recall some issue of him no longer being allowed to be a member of the clergy in this country due to his views - may be wrong on that though). I believe he is also good friends with Laurence Fox.

He has today made this Facebook post criticising our Home Secretary.

Don’t get me wrong, there are certainly things to critique her for but this is just completely unhinged.

I knew vaguely of him as a right-wing commentator but to me this is another level.

In particular his comment that only white Christian men should be allowed to hold any power. Not to mention the anti-semitism that he spouts.

But what surprised me even more was the women commenting on his post agreeing with him!! I truly do not understand how they can sit there and say “yes please take my rights away”. The Handmaid’s Tale and Serena Joy springs to mind!

It genuinely concerns me for the state of this country. Not just that one loon will spout rubbish to get attention, but the amount of people who support it!

i’ll post a screenshot of the post for further context

Is anyone else concerned for not even just this country but the whole world? It all just seems to be going mad!!

You are just giving him more publicity. I had never heard of the guy before.

He missed out that the nations of Britain have had queens then ?

That kicks out his 1k years claim then.

He did, but it's not much of a surprise that he thinks leaders and voters should all be men.

He was sacked from GBNews after supporting Lawrence Fox who disagreed with the point of view of a respected professional journalist saying ""Show me a single, self-respecting man that would like to climb into bed with that woman" and "Who would want to shag that?".

The three who went after that incident were Fox, Wootton and Robinson and they are all as odious as each other.

Sadly Calvin's views have become more extreme since becoming resident in the US. He is a Catholic priest in an Anglican Catholic church. Yes he now thinks only the male head of a household should vote. He believes 'the church has replaced Israel' and attacks Zionism, plus many more distasteful views. I've seen pictures of him on FB proudly holding a gun. I have actually given him an earful on his post, not that he will take any notice. He's seriously lost his way and I am praying he finds the way back.

Unfortunately I fear we will have to get the debunking of this crap fine tuned. Because US VP JD Vance is a Great Replacement conspiracist. And so is Trump.

And it's being pushed by people like Tucker Carlson (who recently did several interviews with so-called 'pastors' who espouse this view and spouted frankly misinformation about Dispensationalism, when clearly they know next to nothing about it. My own pastor and several others have weighed in with rebuttals and showing how the assumptions made were totally incorrect. Of course Carlson just laps it up because he has an anti-Israel agenda. As does Candace Owens and many others.

How on earth did he cope in the Church of England under the late Queen?

CofE seems an odd choice of religion profess, never mind seek ordination in, if he can't cope with women in positions of power.

Piggywaspushed · Yesterday 08:56

He worked alongside Katherine Birbalsingh so I suspect he can. It is very interesting how much he has moved towards 'Christianity' as a cover for his very intolerant views. She is notably secular. He has lost any interest in education now.

I have followed him with interest for a while. His main aim was to get in with the RW crowd in the US, always. He tried hanging around with Tommy- didn't work. Was allied with the stupid Lawrence Fox for a while. He's a fly by night and a hanger on.

English CoE refused to ordain him. I thought his splinter church was one of those outside the official Anglican Communion but ICBW. From memory Anglican/Episcopalian allows a lot more regional variation than the RC/Orthodox churches.

I had the impression that she put clear water between them - I disagree with her on many points. but she isn’t stupid. He is exactly the kind of toxic brand she can do without.

Wasn’t he promoting the blood libel a few years back? And some of the weird shit from Candace Owens about Jewish conspiracies?

Vance hasn't quite got the memo on that one- as he has 4 brown children! The MAGAs were hoping he'd leave her for Charlie Kirk's widow!

Hindu wife. No idea about the kids. But he wants her to convert.

Do I hope eventually that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved by in church? I honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian Gospel, and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it the same way,

The Great replacement is about Muslims.

When JD Vance told a stadium of thousands he hoped his wife would one day be moved “by the Christian gospel” the same way he was, he inadvertently stepped into a contentious dialogue in India and among the diaspora about religious freedom and, for some...

I saw him give a speech, as a teacher, at a ResearchED conference years ago. He was moaning about how teachers were all left-wing and how he felt very uncomfortable in the staff room as he was a Conservative and he felt he couldn't speak openly about his views. He was wanting the profession to become more diverse and tolerant of differing political views (which is fair enough). However, he came across as a total wanker and the audience clearly had no sympathy - I think we all got the impression that the reason he was disliked wasn't because of his conservative views but because he was a complete prick. And it turns out we were correct.

He left teaching after a couple of years I think and tried to get elected as a Conservative MP. Then he stood as a candidate for the Brexit Party but then was told to stand down by Nigel as they weren't going to field candidates where there was the potential to split the right wing vote and let Labour in.

So he started off with fairly mainstream political views and has wandered further and further to the right in a quest to find some sort of lucrative niche where there isn't someone already there doing it better than him.

Replaced by Muslims. That is what Vance goes on about. “Islamist‑aligned or Islamist‑adjacent” is what he talks about.

There are two subjects concerning replacement and they're very different, and are being confused here:

Replacement theology - the church replaces Israel. i.e. when reading the OT anywhere Israel is mentioned you can substitute the Church. The promises given to Israel were forfeited and now come to the Church. It's a horrible, antisemitic view but is increasingly common in Christian circles.

(Great) replacement theory is that the white, natural people of a country are being deliberately replaced by Muslims.

He had a much higher profile about seven years ago when he had just left teaching and was hanging around Birbalsingh. Really he has become an irrelevance. His views are abhorrent and increasingly so. Lots of it is for attention.

Almost entirely for attention / money. I knew him at university and he was a young tory but nothing extreme, interested in education and did, iirc, teach first. Had lots of friends of different backgrounds and beliefs and was generally pleasant. We were not mates but friends of mind were good friends with him. Without exception they are all repulsed by what he's become. And everyone think he's doing it for fame and money and to be close to what he sees as power.

It's all bollocks, he doesn't believe a word of it, which is obviously when you see how he will flip to what'd controversial point will get the most clicks this week. Do us all a favour and don't engage with anything which will platform him or pay him and he'll fade into insignificance.

I still can't get over that it was only in the 60's when the Catholic Church officially said that jews were not responsible for killing Jesus.

I say that as a general comment about how deep antisemitism is/was. I am not attacking the Church or trying to change the discussion.

1964 it was. I looked it up. Link for those interested.

What I don't understand about people from non-white backgrounds doing the "let's chuck all the illegals, Muslims, migrants out" spiel is they seen to be completely unaware that their target audience is thinking "and after them you're next"...
Are they really that naive or do they just think of the grift and so carry on as long as the money is rolling in ?

It's something that's been around since the early Church, sadly. Antisemitism has been alive and well for thousands of years, and the Church is no exception.

I am a Christian and I remember listening to his interview on Triggernometry a few years back. He made some good points and was very articulate so I started following him on X. I then watched him become more and more unhinged to the point where I had to unfollow him. The Nazi salute thing was so bad. The podcast with the other guy (Fox someone?) while they smoked cigars was so cringe. I have no patience for people what say women shouldn’t vote, especially when they are church leaders.

I am also immediately suspicious of anyone who has been kicked out of leadership in multiple church dioceses. Hint: maybe the problem isn’t with the church!

He has issues with maths??

I'm so tired of all this but you are 100% right we have to debunk with finely tuned arguments. Those who aren't too far down the path might listen and come back to sanity. But it's utterly wearying to think this is where we are. Still having to make the same arguments over and over in the face of this crap!

I have never heard of the guy.

The men only thing is in the Bible. 1 Tim 2:12. I have no idea where he gets his anti-Islam from the Bible. The NT predates Islam by about 600 years.

Looking up the Jew Relief Act of 1858, I can sort of see how he connects that to having non Christians in Government. But it is very very tenuous. And very likely wrong.

Jews Relief Act 1858 (legislation.gov.uk)

He is totally batshit of course. I don't have FB, but if someone posted that to me, I would tackle it whoever posted it. Prove their connections wrong. And wow, looking up the first UK Muslim MP, I get Mohammad Sarwar in 1997, Glasgow Govan. That is where I would start my debunking. Were Muslims ever banned from being MPs, that sort of thing.

I know debunking these nutters is usually a waste of time. But it can be interesting to find stuff out.

Oh. He is wrong about Christians running the country for 1 K years. Because the UK is not that old, and 1k years ago takes us into Viking time.

In fairness, 1k years takes us to 1026 and by that point, the kings of both England and Scotland were Christians. Wales and Ireland were fragmented principalities or whatever so harder to call but they were probably ruled by Christians as well.
