If it wasn't for the fact that our collective defence is critical it would be funny that Starmer has announced an increase in the spending in the defence review of £1.5bn since Healey left but failed to mention that he has left £4.7bn of the total £15bn for the next chancellor to fund in the autumn budget.

12 months late and 1/3 of the spending increase is unfunded.

Some might even say Burnham has inherited a spending black hole....

What an utter bastard. A fundamentally decent man, eh? He is not.

Utterly standard way for governments of all strips to frig the numbers and kick difficult decisions down the road.

Starmer and Reeves have always been useless and over-promoted politicians so It does not surprise me. At least we are done with their incompetence.

Probably. "We're cutting the roads and energy projects at the last minute to fund defence but we'll do noithing to address the fundamental welfare spending problem".

Starmer and Reeves have been hopeless, but I don’t think Burnham will improve much.

Maybe that makes Reeve's chances of being kept in place as chancellor better. AB can leave her to sort it out. Followed by a series of 'U' turns. bitter recriminations, back downs and resignations ;)
