Now he’s going, the press are reporting these things….

Things Starmer Achieved In Gov

Not leading us into a war in Iran seems like another good thing to me.

What do we actually know about Burnham’s plans?

"Introduced measures to address xyz"
"Reinforced targets"

Its not quantifiabiable

Summerhillsquare · 26/06/2026 08:09

The international stuff is the most important. Started to restore our reputation with partners after a series of joke prime ministers. Yes, unquantifiable (apart from Erasmus and trade deals I suppose) but vital.

its reintroduced targets and both of those things are quantifiable?

They’ve written each point several times over. If you wanted to give the impression of a thin record padded out this is how you’d do it.

Boomer55 · 26/06/2026 14:53

I don’t know what Labour have actually achieved. They talk a lot, but no one seems any better off.

Nowisthetimeforicecream · 26/06/2026 17:07

I'm pretty sure "Kier Starmer" will end up being Pointless answer on Pointless at some time in the future. A bit like Bonar Law.

Teribus21 · 27/06/2026 09:11

The trouble is that lots of these things, e.g. generous public sector pay deals and the minimum wage increase, cost money and were not funded by growth, as they promised they would be when first in power, but by increased borrowing and taxes while simultaneously failing to get inflation back under control which makes us all worse off.

Read the OPs list

But Yes, for many the only real measure is whether they feel better off and they're not listening to anything else.

Being better off is a pretty solid measure of whether a government has achieved anything

The list seems to miss 2 massive tax raising budgets, and he an unfunded defense plan.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 09/07/2026 17:19

A lot of those are subjectively "good". The workers rights stuff has made companies more cautious about permanent hires (I work in recruitment) and the burdens on landlords are onerous, causing many to sell

This. Even as a Labour sympathiser, this is some pretty thin gruel.

I am not as sure as you are @Summerhillsquare , some of the international changes are due to increased realism within foreign countries. Poland is much stronger than it was and wants our military to work with them.
France, Italy and Germany have had to deal with a right wards slide and realism internally. Marine Le Penn could be President yet. They have come to realise that they need us as an active ally. Pretty soon they will admit it out loud.
That will be the best way to a treaty on closer trade ties.
They need us as part of the 'rest of Europe' against Trump and Trumpism. They need our military and the Foreign Office.
Vance and Hegseth will be there when the Orange has left. Watch for more stupidity over Greenland.
btw, many countries approved Johnson's support for Ukraine. BoJo wasn't barmy all the time.

EmeraldRoulette · 13/07/2026 22:36

@JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods I knew most of those things
Not all of them are good by any stretch, is it meant to be a list of positive achievements? Some of it is just very "How is that going to be paid for?"

strawberrybubblegum · 14/07/2026 09:11

Half of those are 'spend more money we don't have', and the other half are vapour-ware.

And 'ended 14 years of Conservative government' as an achievement! 😂

strawberrybubblegum · 14/07/2026 09:13

And many of those 'achievements' are actively harmful to the UK's future.

DuncinToffee · 14/07/2026 22:31

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/jul/14/burnham-hails-hillsborough-law-rewiring-state-mps-approve-bill

Andy Burnham has hailed a power shift from the state to the people as MPs finally passed the stalled Hillsborough law, a rare moment of Labour unity with the bill set to be a key legacy of Keir Starmer’s government.

strawberrybubblegum · 15/07/2026 22:53

DuncinToffee · 14/07/2026 17:47

Sure, he did plenty for everyone except the British... but it's surely implicit that we're talking about things that benefit the UK. You know, the country he was employed to run.

Restoring the UK's reputation is good for the British. Good for the future too.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 15/07/2026 23:17

He did fuck all good on any significant measure. Most of what he did was harmful to most people.

His foreign policy and diplomacy ‘achievements’ were only lauded by his own fans when he was in deep shit at home. He was elbowing Lammy and then Cooper out of the way at the aeroplane steps so he could piss off elsewhere to grab a few photo ops. And he has nothing to show for his overseas jaunts anyway.

The least consequential or useful PM ever.

(Former recipients of the Legion d’honneur include Sarkozy, Assad, Galliano, Harvey Weinstein and Putin. All subsequently revoked, but hardly a sign of great foresight and judgement by the French state.)

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 15/07/2026 23:23

Andy Burnham won't do any better.

TooLittleTooLate2 · 15/07/2026 23:55

I am grateful that he did not take us into the Iran war and that he has been steadfast on Ukraine. Apart from that I think he sowed division, destroyed businesses and reduced trust in democracy (which was already desperately low).

strawberrybubblegum · 16/07/2026 04:30

DuncinToffee · 15/07/2026 23:03

Restoring the UK's reputation is good for the British. Good for the future too.

Handing tens of billions to Mauritius, so they'll "take Chagos off our hands" isn't good for the UK. It's good for Mauritius and China.

Persecuting innocent UK soldiers doesn't benefit the UK. It benefits grifting Iraqi and human rights conmen, and also all our potential current and future military adversaries.

Creating a two tier justice system and filling our institutions with people with the same globalist agenda as him (an urge to redistribute UK money from UK citizens to absolutely anyone else in order to reduce worldwide inequality) and a culture of gas-lighting and lies doesn't benefit the UK. It benefits economic immigrants from countries with corrupt values and no respect for the law or for UK women and children.
