Burnham unopposed & likely to be PM by mid July

Wes Streeting confirms on social media that he won’t stand as a candidate for the Labour leadership. He says that a contest where candidates spent the summer “exaggerating small differences” would not be good for the party or the country, and having spoken to Burnham, he is confident that that there is “a place” for the policies he has been advocating under a Burnham premiership.

The Guardian say this means it is now very, very likely that Burnham will be PM be mid July. It is conceivable that another candidate may come forward. But, apart from Streeting, no one else has publicly signalled an intention to stand, and with Burnham now a shoo-in, it is hard to imagine any other MP getting the support they would need to be a candidate.

It’s not just us. Two major unions have asked Burnham to consider other options for Chancellor. Do they also qualify as ‘you people’?

I have no idea why anybody would want Milliband anywhere near the cabinet. He was an awful leader he has nothing to give. Really don't like him and I'm a Labour voter usually.
Possibly a good MP for his constituents cos they keep voting for him.

Disagree. Socialism needs to fail again for Britain to realise it needs to embrace modern Thatcherism. We can’t keep muddling through with anaemic growth and a government made impotent by human rights laws, and former mayors.

Who is best to deliver modern Thatcherism?

When you are anti Labour, it doesn't really matter who is PM, Chancellor any way. You wanted Starmer gone from day 1, and now you have what you always wanted.

No, I want Labour out - the removal of Starmer (and Reeves, shortly), are just necessary steps to that end result.

Socialism works perfectly well in many other countries. We haven’t had a socialist government in the UK since the 1970s. We know for sure that right of centre governments don’t work - the mess we’re currently in with defence is a direct result of the previous government starving the budget for over a decade.

Did your powers of prediction also predict that Starmer would step down? No, I did not think so. Burnham has no mandate for what he is about to inflict on the UK - it’s not hyperbole to say that further tax raids, a failure to get a grip on the welfare budget and immigration, as well as defence - will see Burnham under tremendous pressure.

It’s so depressing to acknowledge, but Burnham’s failure is inevitable. His ideas are narrow and shallow, based on dogma and buoyed by vibes. Appreciation of commerce, trade, finance, the tidal forces of economics? Zero. Respect for them? Even less.

This is his third run at leadership. He should have a fully formed vision of what needs to be done. He does not and this raises the question of why he is running.
Personal ambition is my guess.
