Just heard about this interesting-sounding movie, The Price of a Vote.

Hungary is a Russian satellite state. Farage is pilloried for having questioned in the past why the EU took on the Baltic states en mass and without asking enough questions. Brexit voters were told they were racist for suggesting that expansion was too soon, too fast and could cause problems.

Not we have Putin calling the shots in an EU country and it probably won't be the last one.

Predictable.

zantez · 03/04/2026 09:05

I think Erdogan in Turkey did similar to ensure his victory in the last election. Handy ties/relationship with Russia too.

InconsequentialFerret · 12/04/2026 23:49

If true, it hasn't worked as Orban lost, and Magyar has enough seats to enact real change.

Are you complaining about the movie, or the fact that Orban lost?

What an odd post - @InconsequentialFerret wasn't complaining they were stating an obvious fact

Hungary is not a Baltic state.
And if you think that the actual Baltic states endorse Putin, your knowledge is lacking to a point where you shouldn't be commenting on this forum.

Sorry physical geography was never my stoing point, I gave it up as soon as I could. That doesn't negate understanding some of the current EU/Putin/US influences on Orban though.

Vance's "assistance" doesn't seem to have been very valuable.

This is quite an amusing take given that one of Farage's crew in Wales was convicted of taking Russian bribes. They're literally traitors.

Anyway, long live Hungary in the EU!

What has that got to do with Hungary, or anything I posted? I don't vote for Farage but he did warn about what might happen with too fast an expansion of the EU and he is far from alone in that, he just has the biggest mouth.

Exactly . You don't have to look far to see that Kremlin is pulling a lot of strings from inside the UK.
Probably even the Greens (can you tell from my username I'm not a fan 😆) would sell out eventually.
Politics is corrupt.

It is amusing how the left are saying ‘Oh, thank God, the end of populism in Hungary.’ Magyar is not ‘progressive’, he’s a conservative and used to be in Orban’s party.

How about, instead:

I know perfectly well he's not progressive.

But for me, I'd prefer a sane conservative to an authoritarian dictator. How about you?

What is hilarious is that the lefties and EU have been completely played by Orban and Magyar😂

If he was an authoritarian dictator then how did he manage to lose an election?

I mean "authoritarian dictators" generally don't do the whole democracy and elections thing and are by definition supposed to be dictators that rule by authoritarian means.

Or did you mean "authoritarian dictator" in the bollocks buzzword bingo sense - a bit like "fascism" , "Nazi", "racist", "apartheid", "genocide", etc etc.

Actually, there are a number of variations of authoritarian governments, some of which involve holding elections.
