Its pretty much guaranteed that the Trump is going to get Greenland. How would Europe stop him? Could Europe stop him?

No it isn’t

itsthetea · 21/01/2026 14:23

Start negotiating and name the kind of price that the US government would not approve

talk nicely to china and let the have some minerals rights - let’s face it they tend to go with cash not guns

itsthetea · 21/01/2026 14:24

Or possibly show him Iceland if he can’t tell them apart … edit .. to feed him some of their delicacies

TiredyMcTired · 21/01/2026 14:25

@Wizeman why is it guaranteed?

Stopbringingmicehome · 21/01/2026 14:26

Start building a decent European army . We were pathetic when Putin invaded Ukraine and now we're being pathetic over Greenland and we are being given warnings first.

bumblingbovine49 · 21/01/2026 14:41

I think it is highly unlikely that the US would directly engage with large numbers of EU troops in fighting to get Greenland. They might take the island if there were very few EU soldiers there to put up a fight and could do it with few if any deaths but anything that might in the deaths of a lot of EU soldiers would cause a massive image problem. It would be a major step up in madness even for Donald

So the best way is as with all bullies -send lots of EU troops there and tell the US they are there to protect the island from Russia. Definitely dont mention that they are also there to deter US aggression.

At the same time resist all political and economic pressure to make concessions about who owns /is responsible for Greenland. Keep smiling and making friendly noises politically, be effusive about the US. Make only the smallest concessions on US use of the island that that you think are absolutely necessary

The worst thing to do is to act as if we think the US will invade, even though we need to prepare as if they will.

Hes already threatened tarrifs, Europe would struggle under them. Our leaders are soft so I think they will hand it over, and if they dont well there isn't much stopping him from walking in and taking it.

If it does turn into a war at the minute not many troops are in Greenland so I think the u.s could walk in. If we do put lots of troops into Greenland the u.s navy could just cut them off.

Edited

I dont think we have time considering we may only have 2 months, a basic level of training for a soldier would be over 4 months.

Send all the troops that we have and also get stuck against Putin in Ukraine. Show that we gave some back bone . Also don't give away the Chagos islands. Bullies only understand might.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 21/01/2026 14:59

They can't even stop him talking. They're all spineless.
Gavin Newsome, Macron, Carney, they're all in the audience.
This is now beyond a farce.

I dont know what your smoking, if we send all our troops to Greenland they will get cut off, the u.s has a larger navy and will be able to cut off resupply.

You find his achilles heel and drive a spike hard through that. Our security services will have plenty of intelligence about Trump and Epstein that has so far been held in order to try and broker reasonable diplomatic relations. Trump has overstepped so the time has come to take him out. His extreme supporters may not believe it but the vast majority will. And he will be removed one way or another. The difficulty is that Vance, Miller etc are equally as awful. So there has to be concerted strong fight back also on the political stage in the US as well. Newsom seems to be stepping forward as a proper opposition leader, which so far gas been completely lacking.

No need to send all the troops. There are NATO troops there already. If anyone attacks a NATO country, it triggers article 5.

And as Giorgia Meloni has said, if need be, and if it goes so far, then shut all the US bases in Europe and stop buying MacDonalds.
