‘0 to 1939 in 3 seconds’: Why Anti-Elon Musk Satire Is Flourishing in Britain
By Michael D. Shear

On the side of an East London bus stop, one of them shows Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, emerging from a Tesla’s roof with his hand pointing upward in a straight-armed salute. “Goes from 0 to 1939 in 3 seconds,” the ad reads. “Tesla. The Swasticar.”

Another mock ad shows Mr. Musk and President Trump in front of a red Tesla with the words: “Now With White Power Steering.” In North London, a fake movie billboard blares: “The Fast and the Führer,” with a picture of Mr. Musk saluting beside a Tesla with a DOGE license plate, a reference to the budget-slashing federal agency he currently leads on behalf of Mr. Trump...

In Britain, Mr. Musk is known for sharing misinformation about a child rape scandal and calling for Prime Minister Keir Starmer to be jailed. He has called for the release of Tommy Robinson, a far-right, anti-immigrant agitator who is in prison for contempt of court. And he criticized the seven-year sentence of a neo-Nazi who incited and took part in anti-immigrant riots last summer.

The small anti-Musk groups that have popped up around Europe have the same basic goal: Tank Tesla’s stock price and sales as a way of sending a message to Mr. Musk and other super-wealthy people who are thinking of promoting far-right politics around the world...

There are mock car air fresheners called “Musk-B-Gone” that promise to cover “the stench of fascism.”

Remind me when this report was published, the scope and specific areas of the UK it covered and how many people have been held responsible for the huge failings of the last few decades. It didn't do the job. It wasn't enough. I get you are following the Labour line on this. I know why the Government is treating this issue the way it is. But they are setting the country up for a big fall and it's a great worry.

I am not following the Labour line, I am asking you if you have read a report you are passing judgement on. It started with Rotherham but made nationwide recommendations to minimise the chance of this happening again anywhere.

Yes I have read it. Its hideous. I don't understand why you are fixated on it however. It was carried out over 10 years ago. The whole thing has been sparked up again by Oldham Council saying they cannot do their own investigation and calling for a national investigation. The rapes still continue and nothing has been done. Labour refuse to talk about it properly for fear of insulting their Muslims base. And you simply refer to an old report that hasn't covered the 50 towns and cities where the grooming gangs have operated.

I’m not sure we’ll agree.

Sorry but this isn't accurate.

Oldham Council did not call for a national investigation. They asked (twice) for the Home Office to lead a local investigation in Oldham.

This request was denied, first by the Conservative government, then by Labour. Part of the reason for the denial was that the Home Office seldom conduct local inquiries (their role is to conduct national ones). If Oldham Council wanted a new local inquiry (which is what they requested) then it should be locally-led.

Really it was a disagreement, between Oldham and the government (Tory and Labour) as to which was the appropriate body to conduct a local investigation in Oldham, which was then heavily spun by Musk.

People also seem to wrongly think that locally-led investigations mean the council investigate themselves, when the norm (as happened in other local investigations on this topic) is for the council to hire an independent person or body to conduct the investigation.

Ffs MNHQ please remove the ability to quote the OP. or do you really think that people can’t read the post that came two posts before yours?

Lol. I sometimes have the same feeling when one of the first two or three "quotes" the OP. I wish we could edit the original to sometimes just pinpoint the specific lines we're responding to.

I saw a car sticker on a Tesla the other day that said "we bought this before we knew Elon Musk was crazy".

I laughed, but would probably suggest that most of us have known he is crazy for a long time.

I agree, but it's also a matter of the balance between smart and crazy. Lately the crazy seems more prominent.

He’s a nasty piece of work and am enjoying watching him and Trump getting their just desserts.

Also I bet dh Musk wouldn’t last 3 months working with Trump. Two narcissists never work well together.

Well, Trump in general blows hot and cold, and he's more used to people who are reliable grovelers.

Yes apologies. It was done in error (which I have already held my hand up to). My phone didn't reload. I did think I had simply highlighted the section I was responding to, but the main post inadvertently attached itself.

No big deal? Your thread though I suppose.

Yes, no big deal. It happens all the time. It just wastes space. I wish we could edit down to focus on the part we want to address.
