How visible is your new MP on social media.

Pre election our new MP was highly visible. Since then Twitter has been abandoned, FB barely used went silent a month ago and comments not allowed.

She is in the voting record so does still exist.
Our old MP didn't swamp social media, but did post his visits to places, did the odd zoom call. Was pretty tolerant of criticism as long as it was polite.

Are newly minted MPs a bit shy, overawed as a rule?

Not at all visible. We know he's been here once in real life because he had his photo taken by the tube station 🤣

RareitySparkles · 02/10/2024 10:16

My mp was my old mp. The new county councilor is great at local group issues but ignores any individual contacts. Its all about what gets him the most air time

We're in Wales our MPs rarely get any TV, press media attention. So they're left with an online presence on social media .

Mine supported Truss so since then I don’t bother checking. I don’t really care. I guess he might reply to an email but I’ve never tried. Social media is advertising. The MP now actually has a job. They are no longer a wannabee! They are hopefully doing the job!

justasking111 · 02/10/2024 22:53

Well I checked the constituency's on either side of us. Those MPs have been busy around the place visiting businesses and constituents.

Gawd hopefully we haven't got a dud.

Very.

She's new.

Also came round with a survey.

Warmhandscoldheart · 02/10/2024 23:06

Very visible on Twitter and Facebook.

He's a Reform, didn't vote for him personally, but I give him his due, he's very proactive within his constituency.
Gives the usual immigration rhetoric in Parliament though.

Reugny · 02/10/2024 23:12

Lots of MPs have been told to reduce their use of certain social media platforms e.g. Twitter/X
however that is no excuse for not sending out a regular newsletter by email or being seen doing local photo opportunities that are put on their website.

My MP and her predecessors, regardless of party, have always been highly visible. Some of them have done better than others in getting on to TV and radio.

OneLoyalGreyFish · 02/10/2024 23:14

Our MP was our old MP and won the seat at the election even though there was a change in the boundaries. She’s always regularly been on Facebook, then and now, and hold surgeries very close to my home. I have emailed her several times over the years and she always responds, not that anything ever gets done. But she was noticeably absent on social media during the Winter Fuel Payment debacle and still points people towards claiming Pension Credit when they criticise her about it - even to the ones who say they are pennies over the limit!
I really liked her previously, voted for her but definitely disappointed with her recent track record. She also got a junior cabinet position in the present government.

Mine devotes his X account to criticising the PM. In the three months since he was elected he appears to have achieved fuck all except carp.

OH that's not good

I've never looked at his own social media but I see him at local events promoted on a Facebook group for my local area.

Cobblersorchard · 03/10/2024 17:38

Very, she was our MP under the last government too. She’s very active and approachable. As MP’s go, regardless of political persuasion, she’s good at the job.

To be honest, it’s complete rubbish. He’s turned one of the safest Tory seats in the country into a marginal and you’d think he’d be moving heaven and earth to boost his 1500 majority before the next election, not being partisan on X.

SallyWD · 03/10/2024 19:08

He's very visible indeed.

Snozzlemaid · 03/10/2024 19:21

Young new labour MP here who is very visible on social media.
Informative about what he's dealing with and handles criticism very well on there too.

MouseofCommons · 03/10/2024 19:24

Very. Our first ever labour MP.
Seems to be getting bedded in with all the major local organisations. DS saw him at college this week. He was also watching the local cricket in the summer when we popped up there.
I've seen him walking through town eating snacks on the go.

Ours has been extremely quiet the past few weeks. Every time he posts on Facebook he's hit with a barrage of abuse and negativity which must be strange for him because Labour have always been a safe bet here in the South Wales valleys.

OH wow I'm in Wales. Port Talbot perhaps.

Setting up an office takes time... so our MP is getting slated for not ans emails.
She took a huge hit on FB for backing WFA cuts and then highlighting ways to claim pension credit... to her "credit" she posts regularly and answers some posters.

i sometimes wonder whether she wishes she'd never been elected!!
