Who will be the next Tory party leader

My bet is on James Cleverly. He is certainly the best of the bunch IMHO. Don't think much of the others. There was this non descript woman on a political programme earlier being interviewed as a potential candidate. Never heard of her and can't remember her name but she was hopeless. Glad that dreadful Penny Mordaunt has lost her seat. So at least it can't be her.

Why is this posted in conception?! Haha!

missl1 · 07/07/2024 11:13

Urgh breeding the next Tory party leader thread ;-)

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 07/07/2024 11:14

Someone who hasn't been conceived yet maybe?!🤣

I think that Kemi Badenoch is the most likely.

I think her aggression and ability to start a fight in an empty room will play against her.

Possibly Cleverley.

The unknown bit is whether the system giving members the choice of two that gave us Boris then Truss will remain in place.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 07/07/2024 11:34

I hope it’s a proper Conservative. Kemi gets my vote.

Moonshiners · 07/07/2024 11:42

God it's quite slim pickings. A woman of colour is unlikely to bring back in the Far Right lot is it.

DoublePeonies · 07/07/2024 12:05

Please not Cleverley. He's vile. Heaven help us if that's they best they can come up with.

BluntFatball · 07/07/2024 12:06

I'd vote for Suella.

For them, a good candidate would be Tom Tugendhat. White male, ex military.

JurassicClark · 07/07/2024 12:07

I think they’ll go as far right wing as they can, hoping to hoover up Reform votes next time.

Marvelo · 07/07/2024 12:09

Conservative Home polls the members quite regularly and Kemi always comes
out on top, so if she’s an option I am sure it will be her. Not my politics at all but they could do worse- she’s a good communicator (mostly- a few poor interviews recently).

Excellent final point. If it’s their, based on recent evidence, somewhat batshit membership, then anyone vaguely sensible can be ruled out.

after last Thursday I’m not sure what the split is between the more one nation Tories and the various factions further right. Pretty sure the majority of their limited membership have not suddenly become more centrist. And are intent on having even fewer MPs come 2029.

as someone who voted Labour I’m in some ways fine with that, but parliament does needs a vaguely competent opposition party.
