How will the tories rebrand after this?

I am wondering if there will be a move towards the centre or will they chase extreme right wingers?
I think there are a lot of more moderate tory mps (and ex mps) who did not like the direction the party was taking for the sake of populism but am not sure how loud their voices will be.
I am a labour voter but I want the tories to recover to ward off the evils of reform.

"Reform Lite"

After all the votes gained by reform. They need to go back to being actual Conservatives rather than leftist softie policies like trans - who gives a shit about men that want to wear dresses and pretend to be a woman. Why they're given so much importance is beyond me

They are in a difficult position because they are squeezed by a centrist Labour party and a right wing reform party. Centre right voters have leaked in both directions. The two leadership favourites pre-election were Kemi Badenoch and Penny Mourdant, and only one of those is still an MP, so KB must be clear favourite to take on the leadership now (although anything can happen in Tory leadership contests).

I suspect they'll stay centre right-ish and not try to out-Reform Reform. They will hope that Starmer makes some mistakes that lose him popularity over the next few years and try & claw their way back.

The new party. 'Reformed conservatives'

Bromptotoo · 05/07/2024 10:31

We need to get an appreciation of where the new parliamentary party is in terms of One Nation v ERG types.

Either way it could easily split. If they follow Braverman and embrace the Farageists with open arms then I can see One Nation people leaving to go it alone.

It could be pulled further right by Reform. That's how Brexit happened as they went after the UKIP vote. That would also follow the current trend in Europe which have far right parties; the main concern being asylum seekers and immigration.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/07/2024 11:59

They will go farther right

Braverman will make it so

All while pretending to be centrist and hammering Labour on 'stifling growth by regressive taxation'

They're just whinging cunts

I'm hoping the regroup, rethink, return to the party of Rory Stewart and John Major. Boot out all the far right fanatics, start calling them out for what they are and let them fuck off to Reform. Become a thoughtful party of integrity and honesty again instead of lies and racism.

Kendodd · 05/07/2024 13:19

That's what I hope will happen anyway. I think there a good chance they could merge with Reform though and NF will become leader.
