I know it's not going to happen, but how do you think they’d change the country if given free reign?

OP posts:

I can't bear to imagine what kind of dystopian future it would be.

Ereyraa · 12/06/2024 21:47

Honestly, it would be like the SNP; elected on a single issue but no idea how to run schools, councils, education, health, anything

Echobelly · 12/06/2024 21:49

Like the Tories but worse - all the wrong answers to all the wrong questions.

Perplexed20 · 12/06/2024 21:50

Well I'd emigrate. I suppose if lots of people felt like that it would change the country quite a but.

sparkleowl · 12/06/2024 21:51

Or even free rein? I can’t imagine Nige wearing a crown. Though probably he could imagine it.
where to begin? The mind boggles.I think the streets would be cleaner, it would be a hanging offence to litter and the trains may or may not run on time.
Anyone not born here would be deported to Rwanda or Australia.

grafittiartist · 12/06/2024 21:52

He doesn't want to be in charge- he just likes stirring up trouble.

Financial markets would have an implosion of capital suddenly shifting around. Reform likes a lot of the same policies that Liz Truss liked, and you know how much the Investment sector liked her Plan for Growth. Markets made a lot of money out of betting against Truss, basically.

So then the pension funds would sink & I guess the entire BoE panel would all be laid off, because I can't see Reform leaving interest rate decisions to BoE or wanting to hear what decisions BoE members recommend to keep economy viable.

Universities would collapse widely: they completely rely on overseas students in order to be financially viable. Farage & Tice want to go back to days of the Manor Lord where a few people are well educated & most people have manual jobs, skilled manual jobs. I suppose according to Farage, Starmer should have been proud to have left school at 14 & become a toolmaker like his dad did.

June Mummery would be happy for about 3 weeks then wake up to how Reform was betraying the fishernman after all, too.

I'd love to but the same people took away my rights.

Despite Brexit, you can still emigrate and work abroad. It's not as easy, but you can still do it. It hasn't been banned.

Always amazes me that his wife is German.

I wouldn't be sticking around either. I imagine quite a lot of people would go... which would help them get to net zero migration, I suppose, but perhaps not in quite the way that they had intended!

The Dutch far right party leader Geert Wilders also has a foreign wife, Hungarian I think. Although in his case he mostly seems to be against anyone with more melanin than him (but is also against the EU).

It’s quite bizarre, isn’t it?

Yes, if you're young enough and have the rights skills. Farage would be stuck with all the old useless ones like me who can't leave because nobody will have'm.

And his girlfriend is French.

Yup - if he won he'd shit himself. Who would be Chancellor? Home sec/foreign sec? Oh yes, probably Farage because Reform is set up as a business, not a political party?

Isn’t it!

Didn’t know about the French girlfriend!

Darker · 14/06/2024 09:57

I think Reform would implode very quickly and there would be another election within months. But it would take years for the country to stabilise.

DogInATent · 14/06/2024 10:05

Ashes and ruin, I imagine.

OMG yes I'd forgotten about that!

IIRC he has had an Irish wife and a German wife, then he left the German for a Frenchwoman.

You couldn't make it up.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 14/06/2024 20:22

Quite!

Churchview · 14/06/2024 20:47

Given his support for hunting and the 'country sports mean country jobs' line in their manifesto type thing I imagine they will lift the fox and stag hunting ban.

cupcaske123 · 27/06/2024 19:47

Chaos I imagine. They'll sell everything off and spend their time bathing in money.

Madamlulu · 27/06/2024 20:16

Yeah I think the same, it's not going to happen but... but brexit did and Donald trump became president so you really never know

ThreeHundredTakeOutCoffees · 27/06/2024 20:23

It would be a huge economic implosion - Liz Truss x100. Britain would immediately lose any international standing we have left. Imagine, a country voting for the self harm of Brexit and then voting for a private company to run the country instead of a political party. No one in Reform knows what they're doing, no one has parliamentary experience (except Lee Anderson, is he the only one?). A Cabinet staffed by people with absolutely no idea what they're doing. I know the Tories have been a talentless, embarrassing shit-show so it's hard to imagine worse but it would be an unmitigated disaster that even Reform don't want. Farage has zero intention of ever working a day in his life so he doesn't want to win any more than he wanted Brexit. He likes to be an agitator but he never wants to step up and act.

paasll · 27/06/2024 20:42

Well it would be terrifying.

The main parties all need to pull their socks up, or this could become reality.
