Most of you will probably already know this before you click here, but Donald Trump has been convicted on all counts on his criminal trial.
I figured they had to convict him on at least one count, and when I learned yesterday that a few of the jurors regularly read the New York Times, my hopes rose. But I didn't allow myself to hope for such a clean sweep.
I've maintained that he had an unusually sophisticated jury in NYC, much more so than in most other American cities. We have multiple newspapers, and people read them. We have a city full of journalists. We have multiple news radio stations. We have lots of bookstores. We have tons of speaking events - not rallies like Trump does, but places that do serious interviews and panels. And we have heavy-duty exposure to legal trials and their details, so we understand the lay of the land. I think the jury was faster to analyze than they would have been in most cities.
Of course, it's not over, but I hope that people in other countries trying to get out from under authoritarian leaders will take heart.
