Hi Mumsnet
My name is Munkhbayar Elkins a senior research and policy officer at a small independent charity called Sense about Science promoting the public interest in sound science and evidence.
I have a great opportunity for you as Sense about Science is inviting anyone who is interested in air pollution, climate change, health and drives for leisure or for business to take part in a workshop to discuss how the evidence behind policy is best communicated to the public. You will be reviewing three different formats for the presentation of evidence for a hypothetical policy paper about introducing charges for certain vehicles to reduce air pollution. The workshop will be held online either 10am to 12pm or 2pm to 4pm BST on 14 June.
This is a great opportunity to help establish an evidence-base to find out what is the best format to communicate the evidence behind policies so that it is clearly understood and builds trust amongst the public.
The workshop will involve 10-12 members of the public to discuss different styles and presentation of evidence to find out which style, formatting or presentation is the most effective way to communicate evidence to build trust in policy. There is an honorarium of £60 available. No prior knowledge or expertise is required and the policy material to be discussed will be sent in advance of the workshop.
The workshops are part of a wider project in partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, funded by the British Academy, to explore how policies are presented and to test how people engage with different forms of science communications. Our goal is to develop a set of recommendations for the government on the best way to communicate evidence in policies and how to support conditions for trust in science through communication.
I hope you are able to join us, and please don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to participate. Thank you.
Kind regards
Munkhbayar Elkins
