The tide is turning folks

I'm in North Shropshire and it was definitely tactical voting from me and DH. We just hope this is the catalyst for something bigger to happen!

Waking up to the results today and seeing that those (in the majority) who voted did so thoughtfully/tactically and those who didn’t were disappointed but not bumholes enough to launch their frustrations into the festering Reclaim pit made me feel hopeful about where we are heading as a country.

Thank you, North Shropshire. Hope is a rare and valuable commodity these days.

People who have always voted Tory and always will vote Tory. A large proportion probably very rarely leave their farms and consider a trip into Shrewsbury as going to 'the big smoke'!

Then there's also the leave voting, potential UKIP vote that's been captured.

North Shropshire's a funny place!

I would mute the celebrations. By-elections rarely reflect the eventual general election result- they are usually a protest vote/expression of discontent with the current incumbents’ performance.
If the Tories are rattled, they won’t hesitate to ditch Boris before the next GE.
Personally I couldn’t vote for any party (Lib Dem, Labour) which doesn’t know what a woman is, and is happy to sacrifice women’s rights to please a tiny minority of aggressive TRAs.

Babdoc is more bothered by identity politics than women's rights. Imagine voting for the party that for a decade has made policy that disproportionately impacts women, "cuz trans".

Trans people don't push women into poverty. Push women into sex work, or staying in an abusive relationship, because it's the only way they can provide for their kids. That's what the Conservatives do.

I was very surprised tbh. I thought that, especially Leave voters, would NEVER desert the Tories. Well, except for hate filled racist UKIP style parties.
Maybe the scales are finally, falling from eyes? Unfortunately it's far to late, the damage they've done will take generations to mend, even if they never voted Tory again.

I still vote Labour because they can learn, they can alter their policies and they can change. The Tories never will.

My local Tory MP blocks any constituents who don't agree with party lines. Myself and countless other constituents are blocked from contacting him on social media and our letters and emails are ignored not because we've been abusive but because we openly voted Labour or we asked him questions that went against Tory policy (e.g., please consider voting for the extension to free school meals) or we disagreed with Tory policies. He has campaigned for the local railway to be reinstated and many residents objected to the planning permission as it impacts on their homes and/or businesses. They too are now blocked from contacting him. That's not listening to the voters, that's riding roughshod all over them.

Where Labour came second in 2019, but a poor third this time.
