Make it illegal for Government and Local Council to use private emails and encrypted messaging for their work

I have started a petition online on the UK Government website saying that ALL business must be done by those in Government and Local Council using official emails. NOT by them using private emails, encrypted messages and messaging apps. It is shocking that official business such as rewarding of contracts has been done on private emails. It means this correspondence is not covered by the Freedom of Information Act.

I need 100,000 signatures to get it discussed in Parliament. I find it shocking that this type of thing is going on. This will ensure that those in charge are less tempted to be corrupt.

Criminal offence is too far. If you put possible criminal offences into peoples jobs, who would take the jobs on? Including prospective politicians.

The problem is, it wouldn't be an absolute liability offence, so they'd still get away with it. Like with Johnson failing to declare his freebie holiday to Mauritius, it wasn't a breach because it was an 'oversight'. And the loan for decorating his apartment, and all the contracts they give out without scrutiny, they didn't mean any harm really!

I completely agree that something needs to happen to end this corruption, but I don't think this is the answer.

It is the only way to control Government and Local Councillors by making it a criminal offence. It can be reviewed by lawyers depending on what they have been using it for.........if the individual wants to fight it. Obviously if they have been discussing rewarding of contracts when the rule states anything to do with business MUST be on their official website......then yes......they must be punished.
People in banking have set rules and abide by them......those in Government and Local Councillors must too! They cannot be relied upon to be totally honest by saying they CC the important messages to their official account. Of course if something dodgy is going on they wont do it! There is an organisation called The Good Law Project
which is fighting the Government through the courts and have won all their cases regarding transparency of awarding of contracts......particularly PPE ones during the pandemic. The Government is using OUR money to resist this despite the Freedom of Information Act. This is wrong. Why would they fight it legally if they were innocent of no wrong doing.......its obvious!
