DH said it’s because they didn’t want a losers medal. I thought it was very disrespectful.

I also always wonder when they get the box for it? Whenever they’re shown at auction, in collections etc they’re always in a box?

Same for knighthoods, military and Olympic medals.

I googled it and was also done by England during rugby 2019. Runner up is still losing so getting a medal when feeling do disappointed feels rubbish.

I feel it looks rude but that's the reason from prior tines it happened. (And not sure if other nations do it)

I wondered the same (and was told the same). Seems very ungracious to me.

I presumed they were sulking but maybe there is a reason? One whipped it off right in front of the guy who gave him it. Hope it's not sour grapes.

Its standard in team sports, some teams choose to opt out of receiving a runner up medal where a tournament permits it.

Its the done thing in all football.

Most teams do it.
