Why were the polls so wrong?

It seems there is some deep seated reason why the polls during the campaign say one thing, but that thing is different from the reality and different from the exit polls (which get it right). The same thing happened five years ago. But why?

I think many people were just truly undecided.

I think people don't like admitting to voting for unpopular parties eg tory, Ukip, bnp etc

I think people really couldn't bring themselves to vote for Miliband. So even though they might have voted labour, they just couldn't vote for him. I think that crunch may have happened in the polling booth.

I think you couldn't get toothpick in between the major parties some times which has just put many people off. They may be a labour voter (and would say so if asked) but just don't see the point in actually getting in to vote.

I vote Tory and disagree that people dislike admitting they vote Tory and if they are so 'unpopular' how come they won the election? None of my friends felt the need to hide their party either. However, I do agree that many were probably undecided until the last minute.

Tory vote only made up about 27% of those registered to vote so they are in a minority.

It may be that many people changed their minds on the day. Who knows?

There are 2 main reasons. Firstly, there was a lot of right-wing propaganda before the election and if you control the media, you control the minds. Obviously rich people (Tories) own the press. Also, people know it's selfish to vote Tory and most won't admit it. Also, there are a lot of people who think the election was fixed in certain ways (see YouTube and others). It would have made no difference if Labour had won anyway, they are a right-wing establishment party as well.
