I know this is a particularly frivilous thread, and possibly not best suited to this forum, but I was wondering; Would things be just as brutal as they are today in terms of inequality, brutality and so many other things. Would women rule as physically as men.

I haven't actually ever noticed women being more compassionate in their politics than men.

I don't think physical strength has any impact on the type of leadership. A "gentle giant" is strong but gentle. I think it is really testosterone that gives the drive that leads to competitiveness and inequality and sometimes brutality. Some of the most brutal leaders have not been physically imposing.

rabbitstew · 29/03/2012 22:12

But was that testosterone, or small man syndrome?

claig · 29/03/2012 22:16

Small animals are often more fierce than larger ones. Great danes are not as fierce as pitbulls. But I don't think it is small man syndrome per se, because lots of small men are not like Napoleon in terms of drive or the will to power. I think it is some sort of chemical or hormonal factor that leads to that type of drive and leadership.

Well you'd put the bins out for starters.

colditz · 29/03/2012 22:51

Rape would happen a lot less.

I already put the bins out...

If women were physically stronger than men we would not have the patriarchy. In the past they used physical strength to rape and pillage now they use wealth and position to do much the same.

Although I do think that if women were physically stronger we might see something similar, in times past when we didn't have politics and civilised institutions we would have exerted our power in similar ways. We might have rounded the men up, picked and chose according to physical attributes because I think the need to procreate would still have been present.

I don't think we would have the socio/economic unit of the nuclear family though.

We would have to purve over them for their dainty arms..... Its not really working for me.....

We could just farm them and breed with the fittest. They would not really serve much purpose....

I am not sure a matriarchy would be any better than than the patriarchy. Power corrupts and all that.
