frothers what do you think about mumsnet and waitrose and shell?

I'm still waiting for MNTowers to comment on the fact that Waitrose have got into bed with Shell and therefore their 'ethical' claims have been blown skyhigh.

I think Waitrose have made a mistake and need to undo it, but they need help seeing the error of their ways and Mumsnet are in a great position to exert some pressure. If we do.

just let's remind ourselves about what Shell have done in Niger shall we?

Hi Sophable we don't tend to make pronouncements/get involved unless there is a large and unanimous majority on stuff. I can see that you feel strongly but not sure that your verve is shared by others, so we're giving it a bit of time. We'll certainly get in touch with Waitrose and let them know that this discussion is happening though.

Hi Justine, I imagine that there is a clash of business vs your own morality here isn't there? I'm guessing you can't comment on that, but MN could make a big difference here. Waitrose are meant to be on the little guy's side. It doesn't really square does it?

No, not really - Waitrose have never been a big advertiser with us - if at all as it happens (though I see no reason to have a go at them without good reason as there's always hope ). But, as said, we never do anything as MNHQ on the campaigns side without a lot of Mumsnetters feeling strongly and broadly the same way about it. It's been a rule over the years and, to be frank, my own views are largely irrelevant.
(And of course I can comment on this why wouldn't I be able to comment?)

I've just checked with the team and we have, as said, not done anything much with Waitrose in the past at MNHQ - we did that fish chat but very little if any money involved (though clearly there have been many many discussions on the threads about waitrose on the talk boards). As it happens they are about to do something limited around Mothers day with us - again small - but thought I'd mention it for the sake of full disclosure!
I will give them/the agency a bell to see if they'd like to comment on the Shell thing.
