Last year MP Philip Davies said disabled people should work for less than minimum wage. The bastards were testing the water by getting him to say that werent they?!

they are wankers

It's amazing, but even the Daily Fail is publishing articles about the nastiness of this Tory government towards the disabled and vulnerable:

This is not wartime Nazi Germany and Cameron's attacks on the vulnerable and needy must be stopped

www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2102484/This-wartime-Nazi-Germany-Camerons-attacks-vulnerable-needy-stopped.html

claig · 17/02/2012 23:39

Why is it amazing?
The Daily Mail is not the mouthpiece of the Tory party, it is the mouthpiece of the people, which is why you will often hear it referred to as "the people's paper".

Sevenfold · 17/02/2012 23:40

KalSkirata is right

ttosca · 18/02/2012 00:38

Very funny claig.

No, it's not the mouthpiece of the Tory party. It's the mouthpiece of small-minded, insular, frightened, nasty reactionaries.

That's why I'm surprised to see them defending the disabled and vulnerable. I would expect them to call for them to be deported, like they do anyone else who is different or they don't like.

CardyMow · 18/02/2012 10:56

And how come people on JSA, that are fit and able bodied, get a time limit of 6 months on the maximum length of each Workfare placement they can do, yet a disabled person, who is by definition NOT FIT FOR WORK, has NO time limit on the length of Workfare placement they can do?

Have you any idea HOW disabled you have to be to qualify for even the Work Related Activity Group of ESA?! Yet they are going to put them into indefinate Workfare placements.

I am not 'disabled' enough for the WRAG of ESA - and I have uncontrolled epilepsy, have had 3 seizures in the last week - 2 of them I got head injuries from, and had concussion through.

And I would not meet the disability criteria for the WRAG - I am classed as fit for work by the DWP -unless you speak to my Neurologist. So I get a 6-month limit on my workfare placement, yet someone who is even MORE disabled than me has to do it indefinately. Despite being NOT FIT FOR WORK.

And this will cover people with TERMINAL CANCER too. So you can be undergoing Chemotherapy and STILL be sent on workfare. Indefinately.

You can be sent on Workfare 3 months BEFORE your OWN DOCTOR thinks that you MIGHT be fit for work. So you ARE NOT YET FIT FOR WORK, yet you will be made to work. For your benefits.

What a cruel way to treat the sick, disabled and vulnerable in Society. I find it disgusting that people aren't MORE up in arms about this. There has been MUCH less of a fuss about this than there has been about fit and healthy people losing their Child Benefit!

OracleInaCoracle · 18/02/2012 11:03

Ive never heard the Mail referred to as "the peoples paper". lots of other things though.

and yes, I am utterly outraged here is a list of participants in the scheme, they get paid for doing it too (iirc) so why should they ever employ anyone ever again?

tory fuckers.

ttosca · 18/02/2012 11:20

Hunty-

What a cruel way to treat the sick, disabled and vulnerable in Society. I find it disgusting that people aren't MORE up in arms about this.

Just wait for the spring...

CardyMow · 18/02/2012 11:56

Why? Are people suddenly going to gain a concience? I doubt it. Disabled people have been so vilified in the media that no-one will care. Because we are all scroungers, aren't we? We are all on the fiddle, aren't we? Despite the 0.5% fraud rate on DLA, and LESS than that on ESA.

Sevenfold · 18/02/2012 11:58

they will notice in a few years, when all the disabled people are in care homes and their taxes have to go up to pay for it.

My comment: if someone has been certified as unfit for work by their own GP, and even deemed eligible for sickness/disability related benefit, then surely they aren't well enough to participate in Workfare. Or is that just me being fick?

NunOnTheRun · 18/02/2012 12:09

The JSA-type Workfare is also being discussed in AIBU, where I have also posted the above link from today's Indie.

ttosca · 18/02/2012 12:09

Hunty-

No. Your complaint was that people weren't complaining. People do care. Typically it's the spring and summer when people come out on the streets to protest.

Expect a summer of resistance.

SanctiMoanyArse · 18/02/2012 12:38

Sevebn their taxes won;t rise- because the care homes will be staffed by PEOPLE ON WORKFARE.

It's their goal IMO.

I pity whoever gets to manage ds3 on workfare; they will have their work cut out, without 1-1 and ongoing stimulation he quite literally stops. No box to tick for that on ATOS form though.

CardyMow · 18/02/2012 12:45

Oh yes, Sancti - wonder where it will lie if someone who is disabled is put on an indefinate Workfare placement in the care home and is asked to manage another disabled person. How will THAT one work?

It only points to the fact that the Government want everyone who is weaker than them, and poorer than them, to Kowtow to them, be grateful that they are ALLOWING us to do their shit-work for our keep.

We should all be grateful for being put on Workfare, because surely it is a better option than the Workhouse - and we have run out of money haven't we, so that's the only other option.

Then again, I'm sure it's not going to be more than another year before they moot the suggestion of 'group housing where those who are at risk of homelessness through disability or inability to pay their rent' can move to...Obviously, they'll put a swanky spin on it - but it will be the Workhouse by any other name.

I give it till June 2013 before the announcement...

Oh - and they'll get people on Workfare to BUILD the 'group housing' too - thus getting them to build their own workhouse...

KalSkirata · 18/02/2012 12:50

I hadnt thought of that Sancti. I hope that when these tory fuckers get old and incontinent, its a workfare hoody wiping their arse (no disrespect to hoodies or workfare slaves but referncing untrained, unhappy, poor and coerced people)

CardyMow · 18/02/2012 13:24

I'd leave them in the shit they created, personally...

I hope they get a Workfarer looking after them too.

OlympicEater · 18/02/2012 13:45

Disgraceful.

How soon til we can have a general election?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/02/2012 13:47

Don't be daft, of course they can't work them indefinitely...

...only until they die.
