I think the Coalition aren't doing a bad job

Things could be worse. We could be paying through the nose for our debts like the Italians or the Greeks. We could have a much steeper rise in unemployment & faster slowdown in the economy. Tough times mean governments can't make popular decisions.

Settling an argument therefore, AIBU?

As I say, I'm settling an argument.

YANBU.
Things would be much worse if the other lot were still in power.

wonkylegs · 25/01/2012 13:06

Hahahahaha nice to know some people really aren't on this planet.
Right back to reality Sad

ThePathanKhansWitch · 25/01/2012 13:07

Oooh Double Dip recession! Yay, bring it on. FFS. Fool.

hollie25 · 25/01/2012 13:07

YABU Angry

MoneyBunny · 25/01/2012 13:08

Things could be worse. We could be paying through the nose for our debts like the Italians or the Greeks.

A couple of countries are worse off than Britain, but a LOT of European countries are handling the recession much better than Britain.

blackoutthesun · 25/01/2012 13:08

YABU but thanks for the laugh

ShirleyForAllSeasons · 25/01/2012 13:08

YABU

catsmother · 25/01/2012 13:10

You're right .... they're not doing a bad job .....

.... they're doing an appalling, amoral, heartless, "we're alright jack, sod the rest of you" job.

MixedBerries · 25/01/2012 13:11

YABU. Yes, things could be worse. Things could always be worse most of the time in relation to most things but that doesn't mean that the coalition aren't doing a bad job.

bradbourne · 25/01/2012 13:11

"A couple of countries are worse off than Britain"? We're one of the few countries in Europe to have maintained a triple A credit rating with "stable" oiutlook (the others ones being Germany and Scandinavia).

strandednomore · 25/01/2012 13:12

Yup I agree. Things could be a LOT worse. Anyone ever lived in Nigeria, Jamaica, Pakistan etc?
Not saying they are doing a great job of working with what they have, mind you...
(see, I'm trying not to be too left-leaning or too right-leaning, does that work for you?)

redexpat · 25/01/2012 13:12

Since 70% of the cuts affect women and this is MUMSnet YABU.

EdithWeston · 25/01/2012 13:13

YANBU - if you look at opinion polls, Cameron is up and Miliband is down. I think you are right in terms of the mood of the national population as a whole. Also, indicators like borrowing are looking good (down a bit, and on target) and unlike those who did not say "non", the national credit rating is intact.

The MN demographic is not in step with the wider national mood.

RuleBritannia · 25/01/2012 13:15

MoneyBunny It could be that the countries doing better than we are were better off to start with.

I think they are doing a good job considering they've been in position for only about 18 months. Look at the mess they were faced with! After 18 months they are putting 'measures' into place which are working and, if you look around you, you can see that they are working. Some of you just want to be blind about it all.

Yes, some have to pay more but some of us don't and no, I'm not rich; I'm a pensioner on a great deal less than £26,000.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 25/01/2012 13:16

@EdithWeston that was the argument I was trying to settle.

The Opposition are not up to the job.
