So the short version is that no one wants the reform of DLA, particularly not the overwhelming number who responded to the governments own consultation.
Also rejected were the proposals to change the way the benefit is assessed, as well as the length of time that people would need to wait before qualifying for the benefit, last but not least rejected was the changes to the rates and the levels of benefit payable.

No apologies for saying this is the true face of compassionate conservatism.

not long after the tories got in my sons allowances were cut, now he's being reassessed for no reason (he's a child, not that it should matter).
not suprised they hid that, shame on whoever allowed this to pass.
already many are not entitled to benefits they should be, just to save money....no more bailouts, help those who really need it.

I have four, yes four disabled people in this house. They have cut my two hours a week respite care. I love this government.
Bastards!

Not directly related to the topic but I was just wondering - what is the difference between disability living allowance, invalidity benefit and income and support allowance? Thanks.

Orwellian · 10/01/2012 20:11

Sorry, that should have been "employment and support allowance". Thanks.

First and foremost incapacity benefit has gone, everyone is being migrated over to ESA so that's one out the way.

DLA is meant to cover the additional costs of living with a disability, food, transport, washing, social contact. It is not and never has been given on the basis of work. In work, out of work, able to work, not capable of work, it makes no difference it is non contributory so level of income and savings are not a factor either.

ESA is now the main out of work benefit for those who have some medical issue or disability issue that prevents them from working. I do not propose to go in to chapter and verse as plenty of info is available on the web.
