Are you in favour of disestablishing the Church of England?

Personally, I would like to see disestablishment happen, because I believe that privileging any denomination of any religion is unjust.

"Dingdong. Have you ever read history?or was it not a strong point at school? This country was built on Christianity, our laws and culture are centred around it. It is not as if 'Christianity' was brought in on the last banana boat".

I think disestablishment would actually be great for Christianity. The C of E is in a bind trying to be both a reasonably orthodox Christian body and the 'national church' in a secular post-Christian country...in the longterm the former will lose out to the latter. Its also saddled with functioning as the ecclesiastical wing of the National Trust..disestablishment would be a great excuse for individual congregations to offload the cost of maintaining the fifth oldest Saxon belltower in Norfolk or whatever and focus on mission and outreach. The part of the C of E with a future (the charismatic evangelicals basically) are also the part that doesn't care about or need establishment.

No.
I would want to keep CoE bishops (and representatives of other faiths too) in the House of Lords.
