Hi, I am wondering if mums today are influenced by feminist ideas about mothering or whether feminism is an outmoded concpet for most mums today. I am a mum and a final years politics student from Strathclyde Uni and this reasearch would form part of my dissertation research (its anonymous)

In answer to your general point, I am much more of a feminist since becoming a mother. Partly because I am a mother to 2 girls, but mainly because the inherent misogyny in our society doesn't really rear its ugly head until you are a parent. It's very easy, as a 20-something career-oriented woman to think that the gender war has been won - it's only when you realise how much the scales are stacked against anyone with caring responsibilities (and that's usually a woman) that you realise how far we still have to go .

15. What are the biggest challenges that face mother's today?

That should be mothers. To make most nouns plural, you just add an s. There is no need for an apostrophe.

Done! Thanks for this link- an interesting survey. I also feel that I have become more of a feminist since having children, with both a DS and DD. It also relates to division of domestic duties and the importance placed on a man's employment over a womans.

The world is slowly changing, but so slow. The workplace and more is still set up on the assumption that each family unit has a breadwinner with the freedom to slave at the office for hours and a homemaker who will do all the domestic labour to the detriment of those families who don't.
