Summer solstice plans?....

Wondering what other people are going to be doing. Normally I don't do anything, but I'm considering getting up to see sunrise this year. I want to watch the sunrise of course, but like the idea of marking the date with a ritual in some way.

Interested to hear what others are doing? Pagan or otherwise!

It's my wedding anniversary on the solstice!

We are somewhat lapsed pagans though and don't really mark the solstices

redhappy · 20/06/2010 09:19

Oh wow what a great day to choose! How many years?

I am thinking of it in terms of the lead up to the autumn harvest. So I want to use it as a time to focus on things I want to come to 'fruition'.

erm 9 years together, 7 years married I think.

Hm yes I will have a think about things I want to come to fruition...

PinkDragonOfDoom · 20/06/2010 21:55

oh well much planned. Getting up at sunrise and doing my meditations and the like, then a healing rite directed towards or mother earth. Also i call to any other pagans , this is the time of year for healing and gaia is calling out to her sons and daughters so give something back .

Then a small gathering in the evening and meditations and lots of dancing when the sun sets

Nemofish · 20/06/2010 22:21

Wish I was going to be doing what you're doing!

redhappy · 21/06/2010 09:42

Well I didn't make it up for sunrise, but a lot's been going on recently and I needed the long awaited lie in I had this morning.

My partner has got the day off work today and it's a beautiful day out there so we're going to head out soon!

Thanks for telling us your plans pink
Has inspired some ideas for me for today.

Will probably go up on the Malvern Hills for sunrise.

Nemo, is my wedding anniversary on the solstice too. Is on the 20th so missed it by 1 day this year! Usually just enjoy the fact the solstice is here and the peace that it brings.

Also often have champagne to celebrate!

Happy Solstice everyone

We had a somewhat traumatic weekend so were too tired to get up this morning.
I am planning to dig up some new potatoes and pick the first broad beans to celebrate our connection to Earth, then a simple ritual, using flowers, candles and incense, music and readings.

We'll probably light a fire in the chiminea and sit out in the garden, write out some things we need to get rid of and burn them, use water for cleansing, drink ale and G&T and get maudlin or angry!!

Have a lovely day, everyone, Bright Blessings for Litha.

funnysinthegarden · 21/06/2010 12:11

Like the idea of burning stuff you need to get rid of in the chiminea. Think I will get one, not quite the same on a barbeque!

that your broad beans are ready so soon!

WitchyWooWoo · 21/06/2010 13:22

well, didnt get up at sunrise slaps wrist

but tidied up a bit (broing i know) and taking ds (22 months) to the park this afternoon (heavily wooded area about 5 mins from front door) to look at the trees and leave an offering to the gods. then cooking up big dinner this evening for the family, got some nice salmon in

WitchyWooWoo · 21/06/2010 13:23

and that weird word was obviously meant to be boring!

MoonFaceMama · 21/06/2010 21:36

Me and dh have had champagne (a pressie left from ds's arrival earlier in the year) in the garden this evening to mark solstice. Not our anniversary, that's beltain!

GloriaSmut · 21/06/2010 21:51

I did get up to a special place at sunrise and it was a very magical morning. I hope all your blessings are the brightest. xx

LynetteScavo · 21/06/2010 21:52

It's my birthday.

I'm special

MoonFaceMama · 21/06/2010 21:59

happy birthday!

poshsinglemum · 21/06/2010 22:56

I woke up at sunrise (unintentional) and had a big emotional clear out (again unintentional.) Mother Earth woks in mysterious ways!

funnysinthegarden · 21/06/2010 23:06

ahhh PSM, you are a pagan at heart. Did you burn anything?

I just went out for a walk to clear my head and saw some glow worms. How fab is that? Didn't even know we had them round here.

MoonFaceMama · 22/06/2010 07:45

wow! Glow worms! That is ace!

My ds woke up at sunrise this morning! At four months i wouldn't expect him to get the date spot on! Hehe!

Earthymama · 22/06/2010 22:23

Hope you all had a good time?

Our ritual was omewhat cathartic as hese things often are, albeit in a very good way.

MoonFaceMama · 23/06/2010 21:51

That sounds interesting earthy! [nosey emoticon]

We had a lovely day. Nothing formal, that's not my way really. Not at the mo anyway.

Earthymama · 25/06/2010 10:10

i feel that this time of balance, when the wheel of the Yearturns again, emotions are highly charged and feelings bubble to the surface as we honour Water, and acknowledge its boons and blessings.

This has certainly been the case in our family this week, but sadly I can give no details, not even for cake
