Prayer room etiquette

Can anyone help me with this?
I was just in my work prayer room when someone knocked on the door and asked if I'd finished. Is this normal?!
I'd been in there less than ten minutes so it wasn't a hugely long time..

Wow you have a prayer room at work? Thats amazing!

Is there any way the other person would have known you had been in there for 10 mins? If not, maybe she thought you had been in for longer.
I suppose if the door is shut and no way of knowing how long you ahd been in for, a gentle knock would be ok, but I can see that it could be disruptive.
Perhaps something could be sorted for the future, like a sign that can be turned over to alert people to it being used, and everyone would understand not to disturb you.

Sorry, no help at all.

Sounds a bit odd but like they were trying to be polite

I have only known of 'public' prayer rooms wheree you would just walk in

nickelbabe · 15/06/2010 16:12

i'm sure they thought they were being polite, but it's not exactly bright, is it?
if you'd been in the middle of a prayer, especially a difficult one, or one that was sad for you, then they could have really managed to upset you.

It doesn't sound normal to me! I don't like it when people interrupt prayer, although it happens fairly regularly, it seems.

I would have said the best thing to do would be for the person to enter quietly and pray too - and if she was trying to offer help, to wait till it looked like you'd finished before saying anything.

How cool it is though, having a prayer room at work!

We don't have a prayer room. I just have to go the the loo and pray that my shift won't at least get any worse
