Strange smell

Well, not strange in itself - definitely the smell of cigarette smoke, but strange in that it appeared in my car.

I don't smoke, nobody in the house smokes, no-one has ever smoked in my car. Drove home from work tonight, stopped off at shop to buy some bread for tomorrow's sandwiches, went back to the car after about 15 minutes and as soon as I opened the car door I got this smell coming out of the car. Got into the car thinking that maybe someone had walked past just before I got there, but smell was definitely in car and very very strong. Sniffed at my clothes to see if it was me (as in, I'd been next to someone smoking and the smell had got on my clothes) but my clothes didn't smell at all. So a bit bizarre really.

Any thoughts?

bumping because I often get a strong smell of toast in my living room (so strong that if it were coming in from outside the toaster would have to be under the window) I go and check that my toaster in the kitchen hasn't somehow turned it's self on, freaks me out!

I often attribute this (when it happens to me) to someone who I once knew who smoked, ie someone who has passed on. If when I get a smell it makes me think of someone then I believe it's that someone trying to say hello.

That's sort of what I was thinking, indigo, but I can't think of anyone who smoked. Lost my dad nearly a year ago, but he gave up smoking years ago, plus he smoked a pipe and it smelled like cigarettes.

So bit of a mystery. The smell had gone when I got into the car this morning.

Shall see if it happens again. Googled it yesterday, and got lots of results about people getting strange smells as hallucinations, but it didn't seem to be the same thing (good thing, really, as they were saying it was a sign of a brain tumour).

gerbil I reckon it must have been your Dad

Be nice if it was, indigo. I'll go with that theory .

I sometimes get strange unusual smells in my house, which is old. I ofen think. . ."why is it smelling like that / My home doesnt have that smell !"
Strange . . .
