I like Pillar (they are slightly more heavy than the ones you mentioned), Kutlass, Supervision - they're great!

Have you heard of Tim Hughes? - you prob have, a bit like Chris Tomlin a lot of their songs are used in church services.

One of my fave Christian bands are Barlow Girl. It's a band of 3 sisters from USA. Check them out, they are GREAT!!!

There are sooo many good bands, I could talk about this all day

madhairday · 07/06/2010 11:11

Oooh good taste.

You could try

Charlie Hall
Newsboys
Casting Crowns
Brooke Fraser
Switchfoot
Third Day
Brenton Brown
Tim Hughes/Matt Redman
Ben Cantelon

for a start!! There are some good compilation albums out there you could try to get a sense of some different artists - the latest 'Best new worship songs' one is pretty good.

Takelovingchances - I haven't heard of some of those bands so will check them out on spotify - always like to try new things

Mousey84 · 07/06/2010 11:32

Ooooh. I'm gonna see brenton brown on Saturday at a local Christian arts festival switchfoot are playing on Friday night, but I was outvoted and we are going on Saturday instead!

I will look all up on YouTube and then buy favourites for iPod. Roll on toddler naptime....

Mousey, I just looked at your profile: you're same age as me and live in same country! Whereabouts are you?

Mousey84 · 07/06/2010 19:45

Up, about 5 miles from you near Carrick. Im glad you posted that as I never spotted the N.I. meet up til I checked your profile- I should really spend more time on MN...

You going to fuel festival this weekend?

OP posts:
TakeLovingChances · 07/06/2010 20:37

Can't go to Fuel this weekend. Totally forgot about it even though there's a poster for it in our church

I have a 3.5 month old DS so getting out to things like that is nothing but a dream at the moment! Also, my 'Christian' friends are generally very unreliable so I don't really have anyone to go to things like that with. Hope you enjoy it if you are going.

Cool that you live in Carrick, it really is a small world! We should meet up sometime, I could bring my Christian CDs (as mentioned above) to let you hear them.

Maybe see you at the meet-up on 25th.

Mousey84 · 07/06/2010 21:28

Its family friendly (Im bringing my 7 yr old dd, and family Im going with is bringing three of theirs, and the youngest is 2) and lots of its free between noon and 6 if you fancy a nosey (tho I suppose its a bit of a drive to get there!)

Im a baby christian (since march) so dont really know many songs yet, but I want to know more before saturday so I dont feel silly when everyone else singing along ;)

Loving Pillar and BarlowGirl btw. If only they sung that stuff in church ;)

If you like Tim Hughes try Gareth Robinson, similar style.

for a band try Delirious - we sing a lot of their stuff at church - they started out asa church worship band before becoming a performance band. Have heard them lkive several times, very sad they split up last year.

Mousey84 · 07/06/2010 22:55

Thanks ladies - just bought 15 new songs to listen to on my morning walk...and I havent even checked out all the bands yet.

OP posts:
Alambil · 07/06/2010 22:55

matt redman too - he trained Tim in his worship leading

rebecca st james is good too

delerious is superb - their older stuff is excellent

michael w smith

amy grant

tree63

VeroVero · 10/06/2010 15:19

Fred Hammond - every single cd,
israel and new breed - uplifting (especially: i am not forgotten, with long life)

Alambil · 10/06/2010 22:05

if you like Celtic stuff, Iona are fantastic

SiriusStar · 12/06/2010 13:10

Check out Worshipcentral.org.
Tim Hughes and AL Gordon post new songs and have a regular podcast. They feature people and songs other than themselves.

My suggestions
David Crowder Band
Lex Buckley

shieldbug · 26/06/2010 12:06

mousey YFriday were my favourite band but they have recently announced that they are splitting up . Phatfish are good too.

Lewisfan I haven't listened to Iona in years, but used to love them. Are they still producing new stuff?

How about 100 hours? They have played at summmer madness a few times. Oh and how counl I forget the utterly fabulous 4 Kornerz? hearing them live has been the highlight of summer madness for the past 2 years. Shame I've heard they won't be there this year. Hope that's not true.
Anybody else going to summer madness this year? (This question is mainly aimed at NI people I guess)

Keziahhopes · 27/06/2010 23:09

Would recommed Casting Crowns, the Gettys, Michael W Smith - think others posted these.

kimplus4 · 02/07/2010 23:36

planet shakers
hillsong united-united praise live
delirious
a song called thorns in the straw.. not sure who buy...

kimplus4 · 02/07/2010 23:38

ooh something kendrick is his name... ththorns in the straw one

Astrophe · 02/07/2010 23:50

I love:
Third Day
Steven Curtis Chapman
Casting Crowns
The News Boys

Steven Curtis Chapman is the bomb, although his more recent stuff is more melancholy and reflective

Alambil · 04/07/2010 00:53

Graham Kendrick

kimplus4 · 05/07/2010 18:54

oh yes graham kendrick , thankyou. god bless

Charmaine89 · 30/07/2010 13:38

Casting crowns are really brilliant and ben cantalon...phatfish's old stuff too..delirious

teaandcakeplease · 30/07/2010 14:31

I've got a bit of a thing for Misty Edwards right now. Her stuff is good. Although love love love lots of the recommendations on here too.

Martyn Layzell is good. Lex Buckley is fab as others have said and of course Ben Cantelon, Tim Hughes, Matt Redman etc.
