What do people think about the healing services often available at Christian gatherings?

Personally, I think it is a crock of shit

10greenbottles, do you mean services, or do you mean a more "Convention" style of gathering? It can vary widely. I feel very uncomfortable with certain services where people are called up and prayed over, and I hope there are no longer churches who teach that "if you aren't healed your faith isn't strong enough". I've also seen "healing tents" where people can go, as part of a wider Christian event.

In our church, people are welcome to come to a side chapel for prayer, as part of specific healing services, which can involve anointing and laying on of hands if the person wants. We don't promise miracles, but I hope people feel comforted at the very least.

Mary, now at the stage where you would try anything, within reason. 8 years of back pain MRI scan, blood tests, X ray show nothing. Consultant says it is 'mechanical' waiting for physio but at times in acute pain
Also right wrist shows the possibility of rhumatoid arthritis after blood tests indicating inflammation.Waiting for date of scan now for wrist. All in someone who is only 20.
Yeah we tried a service where you are prayed over and it was a uncomfortable; but I am not used to that sort of service. Only very traditional services.

Are you a regular churchgoer? Is there a local, traditional church you could ask to pray for you? Our church keeps a list of people it prays for at each service.

If you look on "A church near you", you can find Anglican churches near you, and they may put on there what sort of tradition they are, might help you find somewhere...

We will also pray for people on the prayer thread, if you haven't found that already?

Thanks Mary, used to go more often. Shift work took over - an excuse maybe but I have a busy life. I am looking for prayer thread now.

No probs, you don't have to justify yourself to me! Just trying to see what 'resources' you have available for you, and what you are comfortable with

Prayer thread here

Thanks MaryBS
