I feel a bit disturbed. I woke up after an awful nightmare about a plane crash in the early hours.

And today I read that there was a plane crash (Air Ethiopia) at 2.30am local time. I have felt really upset about this all day. I strongly felt something bad was happening when I woke up - why did I dream this?

I have had odd dreams (related to reality) before - what does it mean?

Mrs Sean, I dreamed about being trapped in the London underground in a fire the night before the 7/7 bombings in 2005. I had been due to travel down to London that morning and I would have been at Kings X at the relative time. I decided not to go as soon as I woke up - but I could not explain why I felt that it was bad to go.

Now, I have to say I am a normal forty something year old and would say I am a Christian. And I have NO clue as to why this happened to me.

My Aunt had the same thing many years ago about the disaster in Wales where the slag heap collapsed onto the school (cannot recall name of village sadly) and I used to think "Yeah,..right". I feel differently now,..of course!

But I am not disturbed by it. I am interested to know why your experience has it upset you?

MrsSeanBean · 25/01/2010 23:30

Yes it has upset me, I feel part of it in some way, I can't really explain it, but just feel really unsettled and scared to go to sleep again. I suppose I can't dismiss it as 'just a nightmare' because it was true.

I have had dreams before where people have said 'hang on - that happened!' where I was describing something which had happened which they had never told me, but they were not scary or unhappy type events.

There are millions of people in the world. I wonder what percentage dream of a plane crash on any given night. Quite a lot I would think.

Don't let it unsettle you. I have a theory that dreams are just your brain running a defrag programme

Sleep well

iplaytherealtrumpet · 25/01/2010 23:36

I wouldn't worry, personally. 6 billion people on the planet - pick any random night - loads will be dreaming about plane crashes (just as loads will be dreaming about going fishing, or sex, or giraffes, or juggling naked on their old school roof or whatever). Hardly surprising that somewhere someone (lots of someones if you look over the whole world) will have dreamt about plane crashes the night before a crash. But most likely just as many people will have dreamt about them the day before that and the day before that when there were no crashes.

I agree - sleep well and don't worry

MrsSeanBean · 25/01/2010 23:39

Yes I suppose so, I'm having trouble shaking this one off though.

I have limited experience - just the one time but it did directly affect me in a huge way - potentially saved my life, allowed DC to be born, and all the consquences of living.etc

But I cannot explain why it happened so I have to just think, "Let it be".

And the scared bit,...well you do not control these events. If your dreams reflect real life then it is just that,...real life, and Iexpect that you are not scared of real life.

I cannot give you an answer sorry, but I think that what you have happen to you is ok. It is not a thing of which to be afraid, i'd say.

LOL at dreaming about giraffes and juggling naked! Wonder if there will be one running loose in our field in the morning . Will post again if I have done any circus tricks in the nuddy tomorrow. Night night!
