Ideas for Sunday school

Please help. Have been asked by vicar to do an emergency Sunday fun club (Sunday school) meeting (lesson/activity that takes an hour) in a bag.

She said that she can find members ready to help our when usual lady can?t make it (like yesterday) but most will only help out if they have something already there to do.

I can?t help out in that way as I have a pre-schooler and a baby, so can?t responsibly look after other people?s children at the same time, I wouldn?t feel safe.

Any ideas please? General themes/ideas, not related to any time of year if possible.

I'd pop into Wesley Owen and buy a little book of ideas or maybe try Scripture Union website, they have free downloadable resources?

I run the 0-5's sessions for our church & we've just been planning themes for the rest of the year, so I might be able to help

good non-seasonal themes include

Noah & the ark
Jonah & the whale
parable of Good Samaritan (or any of the other parables)
Prayer
Creation
Feeding the 5000

I'd suggest you decide on a theme first & go from there - there is loads of free stuff on the web that you can use

I'm assuming they have a standard-ish session plan, so I'd follow what they normally do

eg ours is roughly
welcome song
introduce theme of day
tell story
craft activities related to story
back together for quick recap
song(s)
prayer
over to church

The main thing is to have the story/prayer/songs ready + the craft resources prepared/cut out etc

If you let me know what theme, I'm happy to suggest some potential craft ideas, as I've been looking at this lots lately!!

www.barnabasinchurches is also good. Free downloadable ideas for stories, prayers and activities. Not so much craft ideas, but ways of presenting a Bible story/theme in an engaging way.

And I second BetsyBoop's comment that this is a really, really good idea that I'm going to steal (having had to deputise for Junior Church teachers at 20mins notice last Sunday, due to snow!)

I agree www.dltk-bible.com is fab I've used/adapted loads of their stuff.

Sermons4kids has lots of ideas and downloadable colouring sheets etc.
