Do you believe in Angels?

I've been watching a bit of Gloria Hunniford's Angels programme and its just got me thinking. Everyone on it actually seems quite genuine but I'm undecided... anyone here had any encounters, or believe in them? There's some stories on the website skyoneonline.co.uk/angels/

Hi Struths,
I haven't seen any of the program, and to be honest would probably be embarrased to tell people about seeing it (but would probably watch it - at least once - if i had cable). BUT, I've got lots of experience with 'angel cards'. They're kind of like tarot cards, but they're meant to be guided by your angels (or your spirit guides, or whatever you want to think of them as). Anyway, I started using them as really just some total fun (not believing anything), however I've had soooo many "coincidences" that now I actually ask them for answers. In fact, I get quite surprised if i ask a question where the card doesn't directly answer the question (and there's probably only 3 or 4 cards that might answer a question (of 42), so as I said there's a lot of "coincidences".

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/01/2010 13:41

Yes, I believe in Angels.

DutchOma · 04/01/2010 21:43

Yes I am one

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 04/01/2010 22:23

Yes, I do too. Am reading a rather interesting book about a PhD student's research into people experiences of angels.

I've had 2 experiences of "feeling" an angel being close, not seen one though. One was when my daughter was swept out to sea, and I felt an angel was keeping her afloat until someone could get to her and rescue her. Very scary, but the "feeling" gave me comfort.

MrsCadwallader · 05/01/2010 06:32

I don't know - I've always just thought that references to 'angels' in the bible were simply a way of conveying the idea that someone received a clear message from God, and that they were / are simply an expression of God's particular presence / nearness at any given time.

Mary - your experience is interesting, but I wonder how you 'knew' it was an angel's presence that you sensed, rather than the immediate nearness of God? I'm not dismissing it for a second, but in what way was your sense of an angel being near different to a sense of God's immediate presence? (and thank God your daughter was safe!)

LOL at DO!

WhatDidISayRoy · 05/01/2010 07:23

i don't know if it is angels exactly, but certainly feel that someone/thing is watching over me or close by at times.

You know, if something particulrly harem scarem happens that you manage to survive, you think phweff, there must have been someone watching over me to get me out of that situation.

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 05/01/2010 08:40

MrsC, I've often asked myself that question, because I've many times experienced God's presence. However THIS time, I knew it was an angel, and it really surprised me that I knew it too.

MrsCadwallader · 05/01/2010 09:35

Wow - that's lovely!

PreRaphaeliteGirl · 05/01/2010 09:48

Yes of course!

They can often appear as people in our lives.

Have you read the book 'Earth Angels'? This is great, everyone wanted to read it when I bought it a few years ago & see what sort of angel they are.

Also yes, I believe in beings who live here in another level of vibration or whatever.

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 05/01/2010 10:25

I'm currently reading Seeing Angels, by Emma Heathcote-James

mvemjsunp · 05/01/2010 21:06

Yes, I believe in angels. They appear in the bible and I know lots of people who believe they have had encounters with angels.

Alambil · 06/01/2010 00:38

I've seen an angel before.

No, I am not certifiable!

DutchOma · 06/01/2010 06:45

What's the story Lewis?

Jacksmama · 06/01/2010 06:51

Yeah Lewis, tell!
I believe in angels. I don't know why - but I do. Maybe it's more that I feel a need to believe in angels, IYSWIM?

chimchar · 06/01/2010 06:56

i do...would love to hear some stories on here from those who have seen....

Speckledeggy · 06/01/2010 18:08

Yes

Had a very strange experience just before we got married. My Dad was seriously ill and the MIL was causing me lots of problems so much so that me and DH were in a mexican stand off and on the verge of calling the whole thing off. It was a terrible time and I was absolutely distraught.

After sobbing for what seemed like hours I lay down on the bed in an attempt to sleep. As I lay there, I felt someone stroking the back of my neck. It was the most bizarre thing ever. My reiki friend said it was an angel and I honestly believe her.

Alambil · 06/01/2010 19:38

oh sorry, just remembered I posted here....

long story - I'll tell it as briefly as possible.

When I was younger, my parents had a lodger living with us - he was a family friend, not a random stranger.

Anyway, he had something wrong with his spine that needed surgery and got addicted to the codeine after the operation... he abused my mother for ages (without the family knowing, obviously) and one night, a long time into the abuse, I was downstairs with my mum when he kicked off

He kicked her into their open fireplace - fortunately not lit at the time - and threatened me aswell. Mum and I retreated into the kitchen (he was in the front room - the stairs are in the hall, to the left of the front room, the kitchen behind the hall) and when we heard him snoring, we crept upstairs

I was terrified to go to sleep and so lay stock still on my bottom bunk - my sister was on the top bunk, and I would not go to sleep incase he came and got me in the night as he'd threatened

Anyway, after a little while I heard him coming up the stairs to his bedroom (next to mine) and quickly threw up a "God, protect me" prayer

Immediately, (this sounds like a cliche, but I swear it happened) a bright figure was sitting on the end of my bed, surrounded by the most lovely shade of white/yellow light.

It (he, i think) said "don't be scared of him - he's not brave enough to come in here now" .... and he didn't - he went to his room and slept for the next day.

I honestly feel that it was an angel. What else could it be - it was as real as I am alive today; not a hallucination.

indigobarbie · 06/01/2010 19:41

I have had many angel experiences and as such do not share them with people on an open basis. However, I have never seen an angel i.e in front of me in physical form, but I can and have seen them in my mind's eye.
Everyone has their own beliefs and opinions on these things and I was not raised in any particular religion or belief system. It's only within the last 8 years or so that I have been receiving messages from and asking help from the angels.
I have seen the Gloria Hunniford program only once and was let down by the fact that the man was allowed to tell his story and then other people 'judged' his experience to whether or not they thought it was angels. It felt as if he was being dismissed for being crazy. I think that any experience you have is for you - not to be judged by what others think.
My most recent notable encounter was a few weeks ago. I am currently 35 wks pregnant and have had some serious issues with my pelvis. I was on my way out and I slipped and fell in the driveway. I got into the car, got to my destination and realised that it was like an ice rink and how was I going to be able to walk out of my car across the car park? I asked the angels to help me and not to let me fall (for fear of damaging my pelvis further). I reluctantly got out of the car and just as I took one step, I looked up and out of nowhere this man approached me and asked me to be careful. He said, Where are you going? I told him just up to the shops which were nearby. He offered me his arm and said 'Here I will take you'. I had a wee laugh to myself as I knew the angels had sent him to make sure I was safe. I said my thanks.
Now obviously this could just have been a coincidence - perhaps it was, but there have been far too many in my life to consider that when I ask for help, it comes, and not always in the manner I expect. Quite often I think people over-analyse things and miss the whole voice of the creator/god whoever speaking to them on a daily basis.

rubieroo · 12/01/2010 15:14

A lovely friend once called me her 'gaurdian angel' ~ so yes there is an angel in each of us.
We are an angel to be there for others in dire times of need.

IWantWine · 14/01/2010 18:05

Hi all,
I have never posted before but I couldnt resist this..

I too have the 'Angel cards' and I repeatedly kept getting the card advising about an addition to the family. I couldnt undertand how. But, it turned out to be absolutely correct!

MrsMattie · 14/01/2010 18:09

Honestly? No. I think it's a totally batty belief

PortBlacksand · 14/01/2010 18:25

Saints too - i think maybe there are some people who are particularly special around us. And i'm not even Christian let alone Catholic...
