Can we all have a quick pray for the British man with bi-polar disorder who is going to be executed in China tomorrow

story on the bbc here

and the daily mail here don't read the daily mail responses if you don't want to be upset by it as they all say kill him.

I know some of you may agree with executing him but I respectfully ask that this thread is just kept for prayer for him. The article on the bbc states that he is making very little sense when he talks now as he is not been able to get his medication for his disorder for the last 2 years.

I'll pray with you that's awful
Let's hope they get a reprieve.

saadia · 28/12/2009 12:34

it's very sad

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 29/12/2009 10:26

I gather he's now been executed

tiredemma · 29/12/2009 10:40

Fucking Daily Mail.

Where on this Earth does is 'recruit' its readers??????

southeastastra · 29/12/2009 10:44

won't open the mail link as can just imagine what they're saying.

i don't think many on here would agree with what china has done to this poor man.

festivefreakout · 29/12/2009 10:49

It's so, so horrible. First thing I wanted to know this morning was whether he'd been executed and of course he had

It chills me that China is going to attain such global power over the next decades if it treats people like this.

OrmIrian · 29/12/2009 10:54

Vile! I find it hard to forgive this.

foxinsocks · 29/12/2009 10:56

there's a thread in 'in the news' that a lot of us were on last night

it isn't only the Mail. When I read the Times this morning, it had exactly the same sentiments from its readers.

festivefreakout · 29/12/2009 11:01

god, fox, how vile. I don't think I could stand to read that.

gorionine · 29/12/2009 11:07

I will add his family to my prayers too. May he rest in piece, poor family.

gorionine · 29/12/2009 11:19

So ashamed of this typo. I meant peace. So sorry

Curiousmama · 29/12/2009 12:06

to read this. Can't believe people are being cruel I haven't read either but can imagine.

He was found guilty of drug smuggling in a country that has capital punishment. Why is it even news? The Chinese have a perfect right to their own laws. Or is it that people think a white law counts for more than a non-white one.

If there is anything to be angry at it's this. If he was mentally ill (assuming it wasn't just the standard ploy used in court cases every day) why was he not in a UK institution being treated and protected? Why was he allowed to wander around without a carer to protect him and to protect others from him.

Another case of 'careless in the community'?

and there for the grace of god go I!

GhoulsAreLoud · 02/01/2010 15:16

Onagar my brother is bipolar and during a manic episode I had to take him to a doctor who sectioned him.

Without me there he could have done anything - including travelling to China under the illusion that he was going to become a pop star.

People slip through the cracks every day - they don't necessarily take themselves off to the Dr at the first sign of an episode - they are not sound enough of mind to recognise that they are not sound of mind!

Amapoleon · 02/01/2010 15:20

My sil was sectioned and used to walk out of the hospital all the time and we would have to drive round London trying to find her. She tried to make her way to New York to become a pop star. Luckily she only got as far as Southampton but who knows what could have happened.

GhoulsAreLoud · 02/01/2010 15:21

Oh, and "If he was mentally ill (assuming it wasn't just the standard ploy used in court cases every day)" well the Chinese authorities will never know given that they refused to assess his mental health before his 30 minute trial

onagar · 02/01/2010 17:04

Btw I got as far as the links in the OP and responded to that part of it before taking in the bit about keeping this for prayer only or I'd have started another thread for my comments.

Amapoleon · 02/01/2010 17:05

Oops, sorry I didn't read that bit either.

Amapoleon · 02/01/2010 17:06

sorry for the quick response, it was pure coincidence, I'm not stalking you onagar
