Just a quick question, I have a friend who regularly uses the word lord in letters/emails etc, I recently mentioned to her, why? And she said it was a figure of speech and not using the Lords name, as she had not used a capital L, is she correct? I've been pondering this, and feel stupid to ask, but I want to get it cleared up. Thankyou, Jael

I've just read the email I questioned her about and her comment was "Well thank the lord for that" and when I questioned her and said, was there any need to bring God into it,she replied with, I didn't as I didn't use a capital L...now I never use any words like Lord, God, Jesus "gererally" in conversation, I just wonder if she's right in what she's saying...

Personally, if I said "thank the lord/Lord for that", I'd mean exactly that. Is there any reason WHY she shouldn't thank Him?

As for whether she's right/wrong, if she means lord - which lord is she thanking, Lord Lucan?
