A prayer for DS thanksgiving service

We are having a thanksgiving service for DS next month and the vicar asked if I would like her to read out a prayer that I have written.

I would very much like to do this but feel very self concious about my prayer being read out and am finding it hard to put into words what I am feeling.

I would really like some opinions on whether my prayer sounds appropriate for this sort of service and well whether it sounds ok.

My prayer for DS

We are blessed to receive the gift of (DS) who has bought so much joy and happiness into our lives. He is beautiful and we are in awe of what you have created. I pray that you will protect him and keep him safe.

I pray for (Godfather 1) and (Godfather 2) and that you will help them to fulfil the special roles that they are undertaking in DS life. As DS grows may they enrich his life with support, encouragement, advice, friendship and fun.

Please give us guidance to be good parents, to be a good example to DS and instill in him Christian values. Help us to show him patience, kindness, praise, acceptance, security, approval, tolerance, fairness and above all unconditional love.

Amen.

As a humanist agnostic, but one who has been to many church services, I have to say it sounds very touching and sincere. I'm not sure you could get this kind of thing "wrong" in any case!

Thank you Wigeon. I guess you are right that there is no right or wrong way I think I just feel a bit self concious that it is being read out and wanted to make sure it sounded appropriate.

I think it sounds appropriate - and lovely too

It is really lovely and I think very appropriate.
The only thing I miss in it (as you say it is a Christian service) is thanks to God for the gift of your ds,maybe right at the beginning. Something like:- Father God we thank you for the gift of ds. And then carry on just as you are.

Thank you for looking at my prayer and for the feedback. Yes I will include thanks to God for DS as that is what I am feeling so think that should go at the beginning.
