DS1 informs me a priest has told him there is a body part, even maybe a small bit, of a saint in every (Catholic)church.

Also - DS1 wants to know how they manage this if you have to be dead for 5 years before becoming a saint.

True of false?

There is not a relic in every church afaik adn I have been going to mass every week for my entire life.. [weary]

I'm pretty sure there wasn't one in my old church on an inner city council estate in Nottingham...

But very important and good people buried there...so in that sense yes, true.

Some of them I'm sure would have been thought of as 'saints', but not proper saints!

If you're only talking about Catholic churches, he's probably right.

My church is Anglo-Catholic and we have a few relics-most people probably don't realise but at 'special services' they're put on the Altar. I find it weird but there you are!

It wouldn't surprise me that the RC church has hacked up the bodies of their most holy people to send to different churches but I haven't ever heard that there is one in every Church.

In the past they were used to attract revenue pilgrims to the churches.

I haven't heard there is one in every church, although I DO know the nearest RC church to me as the hand of St Etheldreda enshrined in a reliquary (gruesome thing!)

Well, according to DS, the priest doesn't know which part of which saint it is...but it's kept in a marble box, what ever it is.
