Jehovah's Witnesses - what do they believe?

I know I could google this but I like reading the posts on this thread and how people explain things, and I know there are some JW posters on Mumsnet.

I would be grateful if somebody could give me a basic run-down of the Jehovah's Witness faith. I am a Christian and I know we have points of similarity but to be honest I don't know what they are, all I know about the faith are the usual things about not celebrating birthdays and not accepting blood transfusions (and I may even be wrong about thouse so sorry if I am being ignorant!)

My mum has become very close to somebody my sort of age who is a JW and I'd like to know a bit more about what she believes and why, and what sort of things are 'normal' for somebody following the faith.

I'm also a bit confused about Mormons but shall I save that for another thread?!

thanks very much!

LDS and JWs are not orthodox Christians - they do not believe in the Trinity, and are often called cults by mainstream Christians. They rely on extra-biblical texts for their main doctrines.

Im a JW, ask away!

We are christians we rely on the bible and any texts used are taken from the bible and are used as study aids.

Titmouse any questions you want to ask I will try to answer them for you.

If you would like to have a look at the Jehovahs witnesses website you can do here

It gives a explanation of who we are and what our beliefs are.

Hi Tidgypuds thank you for your reply, I've been having a look at the website.
I think my main question is about how do JWs see Jesus, scienceteacher says that JWs don't believe in the Trinity but I can see on the website that the New Testament is used. How does Jesus fit in?

Thanks for offering to answer my questions! I saw that you had written on a recent thread about birthday celebrations, I think it must have been you I was thinking about when referring to somebody who posts here.
