This week we are doing the journey to Bethleham, & I need an easy craft activity around the census/counting/journey

Any ideas?

donkey masks?

make registers for your CMing - let different child tick others in each day?

quite difficult theme

KatyMac · 12/11/2008 18:12

That's what I thought

Hmm Donkeys might work

I wondered about house with lots of windows

what about family trees as they had to return to Bethlehem as was where his father's family were from - or depending on the circumstances of you children maps of country or world showing where their families come from and live now? maybe a bit hard for real tinies

family tree could just be a tree shape plus stick figures indicating siblings and parents, and anyone else child knows and wants to include?

KatyMac · 12/11/2008 18:19

Lots of under 2's - so could be tricky

Sorry I should have said - it is for 'Play & Praise' rather than childminding

oh I see - different audience.

what about a different modes of transport collage, one end people walking or on a donkey or camel (link to later on in Christmas story) on a path, other end of paper a road with cars, bikes, busses etc?

KatyMac · 12/11/2008 18:24

maybe

I guess this topic hasn't caught my imagination

Can you play pin the tail on the donkey (or even pin Mary onm the donkey's back ), then do a group collage of a large donkey (with or w/out Mary) in fur fabric etc?

KatyMac · 12/11/2008 21:54

Sorry I got distracted

I think I will do something with a donkey theme

It will be something they can take home (so individual)

I'll keep working on it

how about a wreath of handprints they each do one like logging on the census coming forward one by one and making their mark they are then cut out and stuck on a ring to make a wreath of friendship/family/faith?

KatyMac · 12/11/2008 22:05

That's a lovely idea but we did a tree of hand prints 2 or 3 weeks ago (we were doing sounds from the bible & we used clapping)

They loved getting messy

how about photoframes..
they are asked to bring in a photo of their family - logging their family on the census - and you make a frame to go with it?

KatyMac · 12/11/2008 22:09

I'm still tempted by the donkey.....I'll think

I have to do the prep tomorrow am

have fun

KatyMac · 13/11/2008 13:23

I am going to cut out the people here and stick them on a mauve sheet of paper with strips of coloured tissue behind

What do you think?

sounds gorgeous!

KatyMac · 13/11/2008 13:52

Oh poop that is what the leader is doing for next week

Apparently I need lots of cut out drawings of bible people for the census

Hmm, I'm thinking a big sheet of paper with plan of the town showing all the different buildings (well, perhaps ten of them ) into which they can stick their carefully painted cutouts of people, so there's four in each house (one of each colour, of course). Then when Joseph and Mary arrive, all the houses will be full and they'll have to go to the stable instead. Counting, colours, painting - it's got it all

(Too many years of toddler-group-running )

KatyMac · 13/11/2008 23:05

We did a very boring cut out bible people, colour them in & stick them on

Last week was very techy - 3d angels
& next week will be very sticky with the tissue paper so I think an OK decision considering am poorly & fed up

Sorry for not using some of the very Fab ideas - I am just too lazy

Interested in the 3D angels - how did you make them? Amber - great idea. May I steal adapt it for my own use?

amber32002 · 18/11/2008 06:53

racingsnake, feel free!
