Isn't it ramadan/sunni new year too?

I love this time of year (run up to Christmas) in the big city. Lots of lovely celebrations and fireworks.

Happy New Year

I am taking dd out of school. Our synagogue has children's activities, so it is (resonably) fun for her to go. Last year they made and decorated shofars.

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/09/2008 13:22

mazeltov to Jewish mumsnetters - I know a good shofar joke by the way

dannyb · 26/09/2008 17:59

Shana Tova

Mine are at a jewish school so it's closed anyway but if they weren't I'd be keeping them out for 2 days anyway. Rosh Hashana is good fun, our childrens services are great and they don't miss anything that they can't catch up with.

Question from a non-Jew - my sis is, should I be buying a card or something?

malfoy · 27/09/2008 09:14

We never really do cards but you can. I have never seen loads of cards in a jewish house in the same was as you would for xmas or b'days.

OK, thanks. I sent her an e-card (I think she is mightily impressed at me, big brownie points)

vjg13 · 28/09/2008 18:26

MAS what's your shofar joke?

RubySlippers · 29/09/2008 08:24

SHANA TOVA!

hope we all have a sweet new year

MAS = spill the shofar joke

RubySlippers · 29/09/2008 08:25

Malfoy - does your Shul have a creche/chidlrens' service?

if so, may be easier to take him out?

dannyb · 29/09/2008 09:01

Have a lovely Rosh Hashannah everyone. DS is at a Jewish School so it's a bit like Christmas there, the children are bursting with excitement. DS won the shofar blowing competition for the whole school and he's only in yr1, he's really good but looks so funny with his cheeks all puffed out turning pinker by the minute and they came home with honey cake on friday.

GoT challahs for my sister at 8am and tescos should be here soon with all my food for wednesday, we're doing lunch at my sisters but all chipping in and have just given honey cake to the builders before sitting down to try and get some work done.
