What to call non-godly godparents?

We are organising a party to mark the fact that our famly is complete, ds2 arrived 6 weeks ago and as we didn't get ds1 christened would like to celebrate our 2 boys with our friends and family. If that makes sense!

We would like to ask a couple of friends to be "godparents"- people that we would love to have a special involvement in the boys lives, sort of mentors. But what do we call them? The celebration will be nothing about god (although we are christian in our values I suppose, we're not into organised christianity).

Your ideas are most welcome!

Our Ds has one fairy godmother and one oddmother, because we didn't christen him.

The usual choices are "goodparents" or "oddparents".

Or, my friends' children have "special ones"

I had a 'pagan godfather' when I was young. He was just called, 'pagan.'

LPs is one I have heard - from loco parentis - acting in the place of the parents.

A friend of mine chose guideparents, which I thought was rather lovely.

we had dd named in a naming ceremony held by the local regitra and our 'godparents' were called responsible adults. bit of a laugh as what were before!

I've heard such people called "sponsors" though as that is also used for baptism you might not want that.
