Introduction to Christianity

What books (or other resources) would you suggest a church would have to lend or give to visitors who wanted to learn more about Christianity. Just handing over a bible feels too much. We are a URC church and pretty liberal leaning, so I'm a touch reluctant to suggest Alpha. We also don't have a minister, so it's us volunteer elders trying our best.

Rowan Williams' "Discovering Christianity" looks like it might be the sort of thing.

Thank you!

How about The Jesus I Never Knew by Philip Yancey? It’s very readable and dispels a lot of beliefs non-church goers (and indeed some practising Christians) have about Jesus and therefore how to follow him.

Oh - thank you. Added that to the list

In the church that I attend they have gospel imprint leaflets on the table and I have taken some in the past and found them helpful. They have a website and perhaps some of the leaflets may interest you. Perhaps you can order them.

I found Rowan Williams to be pretty impenetrable. And I have a theology MA! When I was groping around in my late teens, I was given 'Mere Christianity ' by CS Lewis. But I think you need a leaflet rather than a whole book. Does the Protestant Truth Society have similar to the Catholic Truth Society leaflets and little pocket books?

I learned more from Mere Christianity than anything else. The chapters about the husband being head of the household can be off putting to some.
