Bit of a Christening mis up - need some advice

DD was Christened of Sunday

The trouble is the Priest has Christened her with the middle name Anne, instead of Anna.

I did say "Anna" after he said "Anne" but he has written Anne on her Baptism certificate.

I'm wondering if she will be recorded under parish records (or what ever) as Anne, even if I let them know the mistake. (I can't get through to the church office atm)

Any advice on where I stand with this would be much appreciated.

He should be able to issue an amended certificate.

Wasn't there a case where the priest God the wedding certificate horribly wrong, something like the bride ended up marrying the best man???

ChocolateFace · 18/06/2008 20:35

I'm a bit embarassed to ask, though. Am I being fussy?

Lol at the bride and best man!

Not at all! You never know when she might need her baptismal certificate (for example confirmation, marriage, ordination ), and its best that its correct, and best to correct it now.

The priest ought to be embarrassed for getting it wrong!

Can't see any problem in getting the priest to change it to your preferred spelling myself. Anne Ann Annette Ana Anna Hannah Anita etc etc. All the names are versions of the same saint ie all called after the grandmother of Our Lord. Any way we pronounce it is inaccurate unless we're fluent Aramaic speakers with a 2000 y old accent .

Our priest baptised my DD Emily Victoria instead of Emily Veronica! Luckily we were able to tell hi the mistake before he wrote out the certificate! I'm sure he will change it for you, it's his mistake after all

Our marriage certificate has the wrong date on it - the Sunday, not the Saturday. Have never bothered to get it changed ... but maybe we should?

Spidermama · 22/06/2008 20:57

Yes I would get an ammended one. Go and see the Priest even though it's a bit scarey and you don't want to embarrass him. The thought will be worse I'm sure it'll be fine.

Best to just get it sorted asap otherwise you may have worry in the future as was mentioned at Confirmation, Marriage etc.

Congrats on her Christening.

PP, no harm in getting it checked out, I'm not sure how crucial the date is, but better be safe than sorry

silverbirch · 22/06/2008 21:22

I had to go back to our priest TWICE because he had made mistakes on the baptism certificate. It wasn't a problem. He got it right in the end.

daffodill6 · 22/06/2008 21:27

Unless of real religious importance .. don't think it will matter much as birth certificate is the main document

ChocolateFace · 24/06/2008 17:43

Thanks - I've got confidence now - but the lady form the church office seems to be on holidy, and so is the preist. (Although probably not together!)

I'm sure you're right MaryBS - we should check it out. We were married with a special license which might either complicate or simplify things; I don't know which! We are still good friends with the chap who married us - funnily enough he used to be a lawyer so he may well have a grip on the offical ramifications, if any. For various reasons it would be very tricky if we weren't actually married ...

I think you will find that a priest has the right to change names to whatever he or she prefers, although seldom done, however it makes no real difference other than to the churches records the childs name is whatever you regestered it as. How do I know, a friend wanted a ds christened 'Lucifer Damien' priest agreed to christening ds but not using those names. how stuffy can you get!

MaryBS · 12/03/2009 17:00

NOOO!!!! Lucifer Damien?????

ChocolateFace · 14/03/2009 15:11

Just so to let you know we recieved a new babpitsm certifate with "Anna", and the church records were been amended.
